Worst conditions ever for a tournament..........

Wow. i'm here at the rack. great poolhall except the air conditioners went out.

It has to be 100 to 105 in the room. Not sure but it's hot.

Then everytime you turn around someone right next to you has a lite cig in their hand, mouth or in the ashtray.

I felt like I was going to pass out about 4 times during my race to 7. I won because the guy I played , played terrible.

This is going to be a survival mission for sure. There will not be alot of perfect pool today. the person that wins this thing is the player that plays smart and lets the other guy hang the balls in the pocket.

The humidity has got to be off the charts.

If it wasn't for the air conditioning going out this would be a great tourny.

I'm really thinking of dropping out. Afraid i might have a heart attack. It's to much for a diabetic plus I'm still sick from this chest cold that i had.

Oh well. Life goes on. And so will pool.

I know the owner at the rack feels terrible about the bad conditions but there's not much he can do right now.

Hello Geno,
I hope you make out OK! That does not sound to good with no AC in the pool hall. And your being sick already. Try to hang if you can Geno.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

Awful

hard to play when it is that hot. I went to my favorite room last night, and my car said it was still 102 degrees out, walked in and it must have been a cool 70 degrees inside. Boy, it felt good...

Our local room is in a basement. No windows, no drafts, no airflow. It gets downright muggy in there. They have AC, but it hasn't been serviced in forever and hardly works. And up here in Northern California, we get up to 110 in the summer on a regular basis. Glad it isn't Gold Crown Billiards up in here, because sleeveless shirts are your best friend.

Heard the conditions at the 1998 World One Pocket Championship were downright oppressive. Slow tables, tights pockets and stifling humidity.

cost/benefit?

Gene,

Nobody that isn't there can decide for you but is it worth it to fight these conditions? How long are you going to be laid up afterwards, even at best? Sucking up all that smoke with nothing to move it around seems like a good enough reason to drop out, not considering the heat. I'm allergic to smoke too and too much of it often leads to sinus and broncial infections to go with the two or three days of allergic reaction.

My toughest thing is to curb my competitive aggression when I need to. Don't know if you are in that position right now but it sounds like you might be. Sometimes it is better to take a smaller loss than try to bull through things and risk a larger one.

Good luck whatever you decide to do. Sounds like the attitude has changed from winning to surviving though, another good reason to fold your cards.

No A/C mechanics around that area. Unless its a total replacement you would think it would be fixed. Johnnyt

We just listened to you on the stream earlier talking about how you liked it hot and it was an advantage for you.

This room is always filled with smoke, it would be worse if they had the turnout they usually get. It's been this way for as long as I can remember.

You played great last night against James. I didn't see you miss but a few balls in 4 or 5 sets.

Anyway, stick it out, they just brought in a new A/C unit

OK, heres my maybe dumb question. At a 100 degrees and high humidity, wouldnt that be detrimental to keeping a cue straight. No way do I stick around 4 hours for a tournament with no AC. Chesapeake ,Va. asking and we got up to 103 today and tomorrow forecast hotter. My cue would be out of that building in a New York second. my opinion only and just trying to get others perspective.

Due to the heat, humidity and lack of A/C, you really should ask the pool hall owner and the tournament director to ask everyone to refrain from smoking inside the pool room.

I remember things being like that in the Philippines. Sure, there were several places indoors with air conditioning, but these guys wouldn't hesitate to play sets on an outdoor table with nothing but a makeshift roof overhead. Wind, rain, humidity, you name it!! I remember thinking to myself "no wonder this country produces the best players...........they'll find a way to play in any condition!"

It was an exageration. It hit 85 maybe.

In the meantime....Geno wins another match.

I need to make a few corrections for sure..........

I know the jerry the owner at the rack feels terrible about the bad conditions but there's not much he can do right now. He told me he called a bunch of people but who wants to go up on the roof in this heat.

This is a great tournament and always had been.

I knew that there was smoking here when I came here and I just have to deal with it just like everyone else. It's just part of the program in these smoking states.

It was just one unit that went out on the air conditioning. But I guess the other ones just can't keep up. You need all of them.

Just before i left Jerry announced that he rented a portable air conditioner to cool it of. Pretty great for everyone. Way to go Jerry.

It was probably only 85 in the room but with the humidity and the smoke it felt like 200* to me. when I said it feels like 100 to 105 I was exagerating also.

I played a match on table 16 in the back and it was really hot back there. No weather forecast but it was hot.

This is just something that happened and nobody could have predicted it. Jerry's a great guy here in Memphis and all the locals just love him. Having owned a room for 11 years myself I can just imagine how bad he felt.

But the pool players are all troopers and sticking it out.

There's going to be alot of good pool tomorrow.

Don't miss out on the Big Truck show tomorrow.
It's going to be a cool one.........................

Watched you last night Gene, you played great. Keep up the good fight.

P.S. I'm glad im in Canada and the smokers have to go outside.

I dunno if I'm just dumb and lucky or what. I keep mine in the car at all times, always have for years now, it's still completely straight. It's been 100+ every day for a week now and the cue hasn't turned into a banana yet.

I think what kills wood is when moisture gets in there, freezes, and pops apart the fibers in it. Or when it gets subjected to constant huge temperature swings (like in the desert, boiling during the day and freezing at night). Just being warm for an extended period of time may not really hurt it.

My buddy babied his new predator, never leaves them in the car... it was shaped like a boomerang after a month, nobody really understands why.
