Would it be possible to add an "auction" section in the wanted/for sale?

One of the other forums i frequent has one.
i'd post a link, but you have to login to see the marketplace...
and its for disc golf, so not really related to pool at all, but -

basically, list your item as usual
make an end date and time (very specific)
you state your minimum bid, bid incriments you can set yourself, but $1 min
each post in the thread should be a bid or question about item
NO sidetrack posting allowed
if posted at 11:59.59 it counts... ie if it ends at midnight, a post at 12:00 does not count

kind of a nice way to sell in a forum
with the minimum, you cant lose, and you may come out with more than expected

i dont know if its against the rules here or not
i dont want to try it here if its frowned upon

please post your thoughts/concerns
i can elaborate on the other sites specifics if needed, maybe screen shots?

thank you

Doug

i thing good idea

but there will be too many problems for the mods to sort out, it would almost have to be on the honor system, and you know how long that would last until a war started.

thats why the websites have disclamers.. lol

DISCLAIMER & TIPS
1) DGCR and its staff are not responsible for ANY transactions that take place here. If you don't get the item you paid for, that is your problem. If somebody does not pay you money they owe you, that is your problem. You are using this forum at your own risk.

2) Related to #1, there is NO way for DGCR or its staff to determine if PERSON A or PERSON B was ripped off during a sale between the two. It's simply one person's word against another's, so we are unable to conclusively determine who's lying. As a result, do NOT complain to the mods about somebody ripping you off because we have no way to figure out if you or the other person are telling the truth.

3) If you want to ensure a safe transaction, use http://www.escrow.com/, a site which makes sure both buyer and seller are protected.

RULES
1) No "Feeler" threads. ALL Sale/Deal threads MUST have prices or what you would like to get for the item(s) you have listed in the original post. If you do not do this, your thread may be deleted without notice. You can price a disc and say "or best offer" but don't be stupid and put "$1000 or best offer".

2) No excessive bumping (ie. more than once a day)

3) Do NOT advertise your buy/sell/trade thread on someone else's thread.

4) Do NOT post negative/critical comments regarding price, the item being sold, etc. Related to that, don't post places where you can find the item cheaper. If you think something is too expensive, stupid, etc. feel free to PM the OP or potential buyers and they can decide what to do for themselves.

5) No eBay links/auction listings.

6) Please keep general chit-chat to a minimum in the threads. If the discussion stays on topic, and it's between a potential buyer and seller, that's fine. If it begins to spin into a "Wow, I like that too!" or "That disc sucks, because xxxx" take it to another forum/PM/email/somewhere else.

7) This shouldn't even have to be said, but there is to be no selling of firearms, drug paraphernalia or anything illegal.

8) No selling of porn.

9) NO ILLEGAL ITEMS MAY BE SOLD! This includes weapons, drugs, and various other obviously illegal stuff.

10) DO NOT post threads about other members in this forum. This forum is for threads where you are buying, selling or trading ONLY.

11) This forum is for buying/selling/trading with other members. It is not a place to tell everyone about a deal on another site.

12) You may now hold auctions and bid on items. The bidding process should start with the person posting what they have to sell, when the bidding date will end, followed by a minimum bidding amount. If the minimum bid price is not met, then the item will not sell. Individuals interested in bidding for the item should reply with the price they are willing to pay for the item. If, upon closing of the auction, the top bidder fails to pay, the item may be sold to the next bidder or may be canceled entirely. DO NOT POST IN AN AUCTION UNLESS YOU ARE ASKING ABOUT THE ITEM OR BIDDING! Offtopic replies in an auction could result in an infraction since the purpose of an auction is to sell an item, not turn into an offtopic conversation. If you are not interested in buying the item, do not post.

13) This is a non-commercial marketplace for DGCR members. If you are a shop, online store, etc. then please contact us about advertising on DGCR or becoming a DGCR Vendor.

It could be fun and a nice addition if the mods can make it work.
Absolutely nothing wrong with trying new things. If it works, it works and if it doesn't no one can say that you didn't try, right.

I see that you have a PP 1 in your Av pic. I have one that I use pretty regularly. Its one cue that I would never consider selling.

Now, its up to you to sell your idea to the owners. Good luck.

Terry.

i wonder, is it against the rules to offer an auction in the for sale section?
i'd break the ice and offer up a new piece of "preflag masters" as a trial run
no reserve of course

even if it didnt work, i'm not out much, and neither would any party involved...
\

but, i'd rather have permission first lol

i know on the other forum, it was a trial basis until it became popular
then, they gave it a subforum cause the traffic it generates

i think its good for buyer and seller, the min bid gives the seller the confidence of not losing out or getting lowballed on offers, and the bidders will determine its highest "value"

how many cues have sold within hours... if it was on auction, sellers could stand to make more - as a buyer, gives you a chance to purchase if your away from the pc for a few days. heck, a few hours sometimes

on a side note, one other thing they do over there that i like, is you can "buy" a sticky spot in that section - by the day/week/month...
easy way for the website owners to generate more money from all of us "free" users and it helps with the excessive bumping

@ BLueHog ridr - yes, its a pp1 - i love it, been using it for 12 years, but i use a precat314 shaft, my reddot just sits in the case as a backup
the pic is from the web, mine has a homeade custom leather wrap - truly one of a kind

It wouldn't

change the for sale section at all. People with cues for sale would just auction them off with a reserve of what they would have sold them for to begin with. All it would do is get them more money than what they would have taken.

That's true, but it would help cut through the BS first. And at least we would know what price the seller will take without long, tortuous negotiations.

I don't see any real problem with it. I think there are probably even auction add-ons that could be installed if it was popular.

Looking for further input from the masses before pulling the trigger on a separate area though.

ITt Might Sound Great But It's A Can Of Worms

It sounds appealing but there would be unavoidable, inherent liabilities for the auction sponsor/operator and it's because of legal entanglements that the Forum has just so much. It falls under under the umbrella of commercial interstate business which the forum doesn't have to deal with its present structure.

I'm not saying e-Bay is the way to go but there are several current auction websites available as well as e-Bay. The Forum Operators have previously expressed the view that auctions or even raffles are not what the Forum is about. In fact, it was because of the legal hassles that raffles had to be removed from the Forum's Wanted/Buy/Sell Section.

Asking for a auction section is a lot more complicated and messy than it might otehrwise appear. But there's no way of avoiding the legal issues that accompany operating or sponsoring a auction website........it is really a legal nightmare.

The number of bumps could get out of hand.

Also I could see certain things like shill bidding becoming problematic.

Overly complicated. Post "Up for auction", tell people to post their bids, set a deadline. In an uncomplicated manner, you will get to your pricepoint IF YOU HAVE A DESIRABLE PRODUCT. If as one poster suggested the bumps will get out of hand, start higher. A hard deadline is immaterial.
