Me too, and I have no regrets.

All the mentors in the world could not have made a pro out of me.

go Sox!

Imagine how surprised I was when you said you moved to the "North Side".

Two different worlds - North Side and South Side. I'm surprised they let you back in Bridgeport.

And being a Sox fan in Cubbyville - aarrrgh.

Hey Freddy, My name is Aaron Czetli and if you have time I would love to come up some weekend with Corey Deuel and get some bank lessons from you. I'm sure there's also a lot of other stuff you can show me for the IPT coming up. We don't have a problem paying. Please PM me if this might be possible. Corey and I are also looking for some 8-ball action with some players up there to practice up for the tour if you know anyone interested

Hey Freddy, I was over my good friend Joe Kerr's last night and he wanted me to say Hi to you for him.

hey there... as you all know i'm 19, in college, and hoping to improve my game some more...

i would really like a mentor/coach/teacher on a consistent basis, who's willing to show me some of the finer points of the game.

please dont recommend a certified instructor. i have done this, and will do again, but cant afford it.

i currently consider myself on the hill of being an A player (i say this seriously)

i'm in elgin, IL and willing to travel a bit.

please respond, or pm if your willing to help a guy out.

I would like to be 19 and in college (25 and in college would be better) and on the verge of being an 'A' player. Relax and enjoy, chances are you'll never make a living playing pool anyway. :D
If you can't relax and enjoy, I hope you find the mentor you're looking for.

Call or email me. I have a table in my basement. I just so happen to like Corey's game and his gamble. He is a worthy representative of our game. To get action, you will probably have to match up with Ike Runnels on the South Side at Red Shoes. I dont see much happening at Chris's unless Marco Marques is around.

Tell Big Joe Kerr a great big hello for me too.

I wouldnt mind tutoring a young, upcoming deserving player. I would, if he couldnt afford it, do it for nix, but his attitudes would have to fit my criteria, and I aint easy. I have always fancied a protege, but a lasting relationship never seems to pan out. I am looking for somebody with heart, killer instinct, sportsmanship, pride and courage. If you are have those qualities or if you even would like to ascend to those virtues, I might be interested.
I live in Chicago, so you aint too far away.

"Onemoreyouth" swore he could live up to the virtues that I demanded above. So I told him to come on. "Onemoreyouth" showed up for his free lesson. I spent about 2 hrs of my valuable time working with him. I have a table in my basement. I spotted a few flaws in his setdown and Qball approach and I addressed and corrected them. I leaked a few secrets of what it takes to compete on a high level and other things. I gave him plenty of stuff to work on until our next get together. He seemed like a respectful, appreciative fellow. That was the last I heard from him. No phone call, email or PM. like, "Thank you for your time and effort." Now unless he has been kidnapped or is lying mortally injured in a hospital, I cant begin to tell you how pissed I am. Its the old story of, No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.
Since my munificence is unappreciated, I will just have to go back to the $150 an hour with a 4 hr minimum, deal.
When I was this kid's age I would have whacked two mob guys to get next to somebody like me.

Sorry to hear the news. When he is older, he will realize what a generous offer yours was, and what kind of opportunity he will miss out on.

Wow! That's UNbelievable. Wish I lived closer to you. I feel I have all those qualities (would work on that killer instinct :p ) and would have jumped at the chance to get lessons, let alone free ones! Sorry that happened to you and reinforced your judgment and opinion of pool players.

It would piss me off too. If he thought you guys were on a different page and just thanked you and explained he didn't think you and he communicated well that would be one thing. But to just blow you off without even a thank you for your time, that sucks.
Some people are amazingly unappreciative.

Maybe something happened to him like school, family or something. Young kids are kind of in their own world. I've noticed at the Red Shoes league that lots of them routinely show up late or forget. We were probably all dumber when younger.

If he chose to ignore you, then Sorry to hear that the pup acted like such a nitwit. I myself am an old dog but relatively new to the game and cherish any opportunity to glean what I can from those in the know.

I was whipped by George Fels last night in 14.1. Though he was not at his best, there were moments when he picked the racks apart with such precision that all i could do was smile and watch.

Frank "Sailor" Stellman of Racine has yelled at me and insulted my grip, stroke, etc., but I have felt privileged to pick up what I could from him.

Local shooter Ed Latimer is always making fun of my poking instead of stroking, and my haphazard position play but I can't wait to get the opportunity to get on a table with him.

Anyway, I hope you don't let this punk sour you and you keep your mind open in case a good kid comes along who can appreciate what you are doing.

To this day, I wish I had the opportunity to learn early on the proper way to play the game. I feel that I have reached a decent level, but could have saved years of learning curve if I had the proper instruction early on. This kid has no idea now what he has missed out on. It would be the equivalent of having an Arnold Palmer teach you how to play golf, or Pete Sampras in tennis.

Like the previous poster said, I would not let one kids behaviour influence you too much Freddie. There are kids out there that would relish and treasure the experience of having a mentor. I would have payed dearly to have the experiance when I was younger.

Regards,

Doug

Freddy, here's my take, for what it's worth. I'm thinking this kid THOUGHT he had the qualities and characteristics you required. But after the two hours with you, he knew in his little heart-of-hearts that he fell short in one or more respects. He was too EMBARRASSED to face you or contact you again. In any event, by not returning he probably saved your time and his as well.

BTW, good luck on your China venture!

Sorry to hear about that.. :(

150 an hour with a 4 hour minimum? Shiat, I'd love to improve my banks, but 6 bills plus a plane ticket from San Diego and hotel accomodations etc.. I think that might be a little outta my league.

DJ

Freddie a few things were said that could possibly have happened one of them being that the young one didn't realize the amount of time and dedication this sport can take and felt unable to communicate this to you.

You can't stop trying to be a good guy and you can only control what you do and never control what others do.

One day we may know the true story and perhaps young one could do us a favor by posting his lack of communications with you. Sometimes it is a little intimidating to answer in person candidly to an oldster when you are a young man. Sometimes it is easier in writing........

Anyway perhaps we should have an audition for an honor such as this.
If you are still up to it perhaps we could find you another willing student. :-)
Warm REgards,
JoeyA

Why is it that Onemoreyouth has been signed onto AZBilliards, even today, but hasn't posted on the matter?
