I hear alot of people talk about how great the filipinos are but i dont hear that much about Marlon Manalo. I was just curious if some of the people here would like to share their opinions with me. I have played with him b4 and found him to be an amazing player but wanted to know what other people think. Thanks ahead to all who reply.

World beater. Capable of beating anyone in the world at any time.

Just a hair below Orcullo, Pagulayan and Alcano, but still among the most dangerous of the Phillipines contingent of superstars. Has one of the best breaks in the world in both eight ball and nine ball.

One of the best in the world and not your typical "action hungry" Filipino player. Manalo is an example of a Filipino champion who did NOT come up through the gambling culture and whose style isn't all over the place. His style is clearly patterned after a snooker background.

A few years ago when he went on his own self-financed road trip around the world he was winning just about every tournament he entered.

Seems as if he has cut down his schedule a bit. If I were the best player in the world I would never be happy to see Manalo's name across from mine.

I saw Marlon play a local pro some 10 ball last year and the local didn't get to the table very often. I saw Marlon do stuff with the cue ball that I've never seen in my 40+ years of being around the game. And he made it look effortless.

Yea like i said i had the chance to play with him every day for a week or so and some of the things he was able to do with the cue ball were totally amazing. He actually had one of if not the highest overall stats in the whole ipt. I still have his cue which he used in the ipt and also won the texas hold em pool tourney with. He was great to be around and we played 50 dollar races to nine all day everyday for over a week and it was a real treat. A lil expensive tho lol. Thank for all ur input everyone and i hope to hear more.

From what i've seen of his game I don't think he's a haif under anyone.:grin-square:

I agree wincardona. Personally i believe hes one of the more under rated filipinos. I think hes got a gear as high as neone and his break is HUGE. Id love to see him in action more often. Mayb one day he can get a game on tar. Just me wishing lol. But i think hed b a great game for anyone. Hes got a great cueball, excellent pocketing, and jam up pattern play. Hes definately one of my favorite players to watch. Just my two cents.

IMO he's one of the best Filipino players out there. And i dont think he's a "hair" below any of the other great Filipino players.

I have seen Manalo playing in Sacramento, CA and on TV. There are several players that I like a lot and are on the top of my mentors list, Manalo is on top and Strickland and Reyes next.

i saw him play danny harriman in Strokers in Tampa in the Florida Pro Tour and he was down 6-1 in a race to 8. Danny Harriman played really good and was not missing a ball. but to get to game 7 he missed a 2 ball i believe and manalo came back to win 8-7.

i think his 8 ball game is really jam up. He should have gone to play for the million with mike seigel instead of efren cause i dont think he even lost 2 matches in that tourny. my 2 cents

In "who the toughest player to beat?" type threads, Manalo's name is not the one that comes up, but Orcullo, Pagulayan and Alcano are always mentioned.

I agree sjm his name doesnt come up nearly enough. But you also have to factor in that hes not in the states nearly as much as Alex, Dennis, or Ronnie. One thing i know for sure is that nobody in the world has to like it with Marlon and this is exactly what i mean when i said that i believe hes one of the more under rated filipino players. And after watching his challenge match with Rodney Morris there is no question his 8 ball game is jam up. Id love to hear what Jay, John S, or Bartram have to say about his game. If any of you guys read this please give your opinions. Thank you guys in advance and i appreciate all the replies ive gotten since im new to posting and I have no rep or credibility. Hopefully i will have contribute some good posts to the forum.

You've got credibility with me, and rep is something you shouldn't concern yourself with. You obviously love pool, and that makes you one of us. It's nice to see you jumping in and exchanging posts and thoughts with all of us. Keep it coming. It's nice to have you here.

When the IPT was in Orlando, the game was 8-ball and Manalo had the best record of anyone.

He was also a very approachable person. He seemed like a very nice person to be around.

First of all i would like to say thanks SJM for welcoming me to the forum. Im just a kid that loves to play and will try to do whatever it takes to improve. I gambled 50 dollar sets with Marlon all day long every day for over a week and boy did i learn alot. Hes definately one of the nicest guys i have ever met and is also extremely intelligent in this game but is also willing to share his hard earned info. Hes my favorite player and i just wanted to see what others here thought of him as well. So far you guys have all been really helpful and made me feel like i am part of the forum. Thanks everyone and ill try to keep coming up with interesting threads and posts.
