I was a tournament director for over two years in a weekly tournament. Quite frequently I had players wanting to get in after the draw was done. Personally, I think an entire re-draw is in order (especially since the draw tends to determine the outcome of the tourney). But I would ask the players affected (the ones with byes) and I would only randomly draw in the late player in those spots if EVERYONE agreed. Once in a while, someone wouldn't agree, and the late player just had to learn a lesson on being on time...
Yes, I think you got a raw deal and I think it was the TD's responsiblity to take the heat. Believe me, TDs do get a lot of whining and crap that's uncaled for, but in my mind, this is a legitimate beef you have.
