Would you buy from a newbie??

I would like to know your opinions on this matter.
I list LTB a shaft, a guy sends me a pm that he has what i want, sends a picture, details and a logical price.
I never heard of this AZ member so I check his profile and I see that he joined two month ago, no feedback and no topics, so right away I dont feel comfortable anymore, and since it is a small transaction it would not be worth using escrow.
since I have a good feedback here and on ebay, and I bought and sold many times here, I explain this to Mr. New guy and asked him to ship the shaft first and I will pay him upon receipt of shaft, this way he can establish a feedback.
That's when he started calling me crazy but in a bad language.
AM I WRONG TO ASK?????
If yes, what would you do???
thanks for all your imput.

Just use paypal paid with a credit card. If you do not get what you paid for, or if the condition is not as described, you can dispute it with paypal and your credit card company and you will get your money back. Best way to protect yourself with purchases on the internet.

Go for it,,,,,,,,,,!

I got burned on a cue deal when I was a newbie by Southpaw, one of the more popular guys here.

so you never know, is what I guess I'm getting at.

Amen !!!!! Thank you......I was going to post the same thing.

To the OP....... YOU were a newbie (along with myself) and someone took a chance on you (and me) to buy from or sell to us in order to get our iTrader up.

I am not sure it calls for the newbie to cuss you out in a reply back, but we also don't know how you approached the situation. I for one, would not have cussed you out but I too would probably have had some choice words for you. There are only a handful of members (4 to be exact and 1 is local to me) that I would send something to BEFORE they paid me, and it's only because we've had many successful transactions on here before OR we have talked on the phone regurally and I feel VERY comfortable with them and they would do the same for me.

MortuaryMike, Jamsgolf, ToomnyQs, and blbarnett03 are the ONLY ones on the forum I would send something to BEFORE payment is received, these guys are upstanding individuals in my opinion !!!

To your original question of "what would you do" ???

You either have to suck it up and take a chance like someone did on you and I, or move on to the next seller.

My one and only bad deal was with a person with many sales and at that time a perfect iTrader.

We were all Newbs at one time. I have no specific issue with a new person. But if the person went ballistic over the suggestion then I would probably be put off.

Nothing wrong with asking. Epecting it is another story. Buyers and sellers are on equal footing IMHO regardless of iTrader.

Paypal is a good protection. Be smart, be reasonable, be honest.

Remember, that Newb does not know you either. If they read these forums then high iTraders won't give them the warm and fuzzy feeling either. It might be one general indicator, but it sure won't get you a loan at a bank.

Deal with a noob? Yup, I would. I wouldn't risk my mank roll on it, or a very rare or valuable item, but certainly I would try to deal with them.

My fist sale here was a nail biter for me. I was so worried about making sure it went OK. The buyer was very thorough and we spoke on the phone. He was also extremely reasonable and gave me a proper chance to conduct myself properly. It wasn't a lot of money and I actually sold the item for substantially less here than I could have on Ebay simply to begin to gain some reputation here. I never tried to point to my Ebay stats at all. That's another place and IMHO has nothing to do with what goes on here.

If you can't afford to take the chance, don't take it. If you can, then consider all the factors before just dismissing the idea.

The fact that the seller reacted poorly is a bad indicator IMHO.

Ditto
nobody is going to ship to you without payment if they don't know you. JUST KEEP COPIES OF THE PROPOSED DEAL AND YOU ARE GOOD. tell them you need a 3 day period to inspect and return if issues arise. Not to be used for.buyers remorse.

OP handled this EXTREMELY poorly imo. Treated the seller like a lesser species, get off your high horse man.

Pay first, receive item later. Sun rises east, sun sets west. The circle of life.

liike others here, I would not expect the seller to send to item before it was paid for.

That's just crazy talk.

I'll give people a really good deal if I can make it work, but I don't send anything to anyone without payment. As far as newbie goes, I'm relatively new to selling billiards, and in a lot of ways that's not a good thing when people are used to sites like pooldawg, meullers, budget etc etc. But that doesn't make me wanna quit, and I still get business. Everyone is new at some point. Me personally, I saw that the big sites were stacked pretty high, so I changed my business to work differently...

Do what makes you feel comfortable, but remember that the other guy has to feel comfortable too.

yes, I would buy from a newbie. But I would trade PMs/emails with him, ask questions and maybe talk on the phone to get a feel before doing so. If I feel comfortable I would pay via PayPal w/a credit card as others have said so if it goes bad I'm protected.

And, as far as having them send me the product first, not typically. But I have had a new person offer to do it so I wouldn't feel uncomfortable. So it's not too far fetched, but I would only suggest it if they had something I really wanted and I didn't feel comfortable after talking with them, that would come first.

Thanks for all your imputs guys.
food for thoughts:
always be polite, whether when asking a weird question or answering it.
that applies on me and all fellow Azers.
I was polite in asking him and clear but in return he was NOT and ....
I did not invent the wheel when I asked him to send it first, I had someone send me a Mc Daniel then I paid him on receipt and it was his idea not mine, then I sent two cues to a different Azer to choose from then he payed me.
I have lost $1100 to a newbie here before, we all remember ((( the general ))) learned my lesson and now I am very cautious onto whom I deal with.
Folks keep in mind that we all order from trusted websites for a good reason right??? Otherwise you walk in a store, hold the item first then pay for it, correct???
### If one wants to trust all newbies then its fine with me but after I got screwed I think I will be selective onto how I deal with a newbie.###
Thanks again.

Best ,and only way to do business on the net..

Just use paypal paid with a credit card. If you do not get what you paid for, or if the condition is not as described, you can dispute it with paypal and your credit card company and you will get your money back. Best way to protect yourself with purchases on the internet.

This is the best method as "Brandon" has mentioned, 1st make him send you a invoice describing the conditioning of the shaft, and price, that way you have a written statement from seller, describing the condition of the shaft..

Then after you read over the invoice, you pay thru pay pal via credit card, if for whatever reason the shaft doesnt match the specs, you have proof of how it was described, and you get your money back, and simply return seller his shaft..

Paying with a Credit Card (via Paypal) was the best suggestion so far.

Be careful if you pay by Paypal, in that you probably need to make sure your existing balance is $0 before it will start to draw on your credit card, even if you select that payment method.

I don't see cuejo on that list :(

LOL...... :embarrassed2: I knew I would leave someone off my list. I would send you ANYTHING I have without payment first, even to Canada, and hopefully you just don't ask for my high end Coker.

Tee hee
In a small dollar item, if I was unsure I'd probably want to pay half up front an half when I got the cue...
But who knows until it actually happens.
I've only bought a couple cues on here and both deals were smooth.
I paid minutes after making the deal too...

Well it seems like the best thing is to use paypal like most advised.
But you know what I still think the seller could have simply refused my offer in a CIVILIZED manner, no direspect, its that simple.

:scratchhead:

Kind of sounds like you are a newbie when it comes to buying and selling.

Never heard of a big box store shipping an item before it was paid for.

Why would you think someone else would?

I don't know what the seller said but it sounds like he got his point accross.

I agree with the seller and thought of you as crazy.

It's that simple....
