Would you have paid for a live stream for the Straight Pool World Championships?

Hey Fast Lenny !

I don't think we've met. I've never been to that room. Anyway, sounds
like alot of good ideas are being discussed in this thread. I hope something
good gets put together for next 14.1 WC.

This is what I would like to try:

A challenge match streamed free for 3 days on weekend in the winter. A kick ass challenge match, something big that we would promote for a few months, magazine ads the whole nine.

For something like that we would probably need $3-5K depending on what part of the country we do it and even then we are not really going to make much after expenses but I want to see the reaction we would get.

Like the man said. "Build it and they will come......as long as its free" :D

Justin, If you had a challenge match between two excellent players streamed for free, I suspect that you would get a tremendous response.

Over the past several months, the IPT streamed their 8-ball and straight pool matches for free. Does anyone know what kind of viewership response the IPT got from these freebies? That might give Justin some insight on what kind of viewership response his challenge match might generate.

IPT is better known and wider reaching as of now,I am sure there numbers were very good.I think they would be lucky to get a total of 10,000 viewers for one of there streams but I could be wrong.I would like to see some other peoples guesses.

Lenny, I may be wrong, as I am not computer literate, but when I see viewers on UStream, I sometimes see numbers and names.

On this forum , for example, I see names and then unidentified viewers. For instance, there may be 300 members with "names" viewing this forum, and then there are 2,000-plus unidentified viewers.

Are some of the "unidentified" viewers on UStream and this forum the search engine crawlers? I think that is what they are called.

It is hard for me to believe that there are 2,300 people viewing this forum right now.

That said, I would be surprised if more than 300 people were viewing a live pool match, and I would sure love to be dead wrong with this opinion.

I'm out of pool completely. I have logged on this site just a few times in the last year and have posted very few times in that time span. I lost my taste for supporting the game after the shots I took last year about this event from some "fans". No skin off my back, but pool lost a benefactor in myself. For the 30 grand or so it cost me to help put on the event last year, I could of bought my wife a handbag instead.

This sport will never amount to anything with the type of fans it attracts. I even read somewhere here that a fan thought it was ok to fire an airbarrel, and unless you've been around this game a long time , and on it's inner circle, you wouldn't know that it's ok. This is the kind of "fan" that has destroyed the game of pool.

Glad I'm out.

Randy

Randy,
Please don't let the rabid AZB fans get to you. Your efforts to promote pool is greatly appreciated, more than you will ever know.

This sport does need help in promoting itself and as many people have said here, Internet streaming is definitely the wave of the future. For potential backers like yourself, helping to provide Internet streaming to various events can provide a unique opportunity to really make a difference.

No. I am typing the following only because my initial reply of "No" was considered too short...:)

My choice is based solely on my waning interest in the game.
