so the last time I went to play the poolhall was semi busy maybe half full. the 20 something girl they had "working" wasn't paying very much attention. my question is if you see someone doing something i.e. sitting on a table, throwing around house cues or "scoop" jumping the cue ball. do you say something since you play on the tables yourself? every poolhall ive gone in ive always treated like my own. just wondering what othera think.

a woman could. and i would. cause that's BS, plus she's not earning respect from players. i take it she didn't have a man w/ her to keep her in line? technically, it's the bartender's responsibility. and i would absolutely inform him ASAP, so that he could "teach" her the Rules of Pool Etiquette.
I disagree. I have many times in many rooms around the country, seen someone sitting on a table, gone up to them and quietly asked them to please not sit on the table. Never had any issues, and they always complied...because of the WAY I asked them.

Especially if the ones who are using their "real names" are doing so because they are conducting business here and the others are not. Using one's real name has become a very tired way of crediting oneself with some false sense of credibility.

In my home room, I don't hesitate to say anything. Out of town, I would probably advise staff if I thought it was a serious offense and was likely to reoccur.

Yep. Anything can be said to anyone. It's the way it's said.
I try to take care of the community pool room where I live. I take care of the cues, clean the tables and respectfully ask people in there to abide by the rules of equipment etiquette. Some listen. Some get pissed. I had an 85 year old man just about wanting to throw hands at me. Lately I report to management and ask them to please come into the room and read the riot act.
To the OP. Thanks for giving a hoot about what goes on. It keeps the tables playable. Keeps the repairs down. And if the repairs get to be expensive the hourly fee will go up. Everyone wins by your actions. As mentioned before don't get into a confrontation over Anything if you can avoid it. Let the owners handle it.

Depends what those players are actually doing. If they're scooping, leaning or even sitting on the edges of the tables (the wooden part, not the rails (-.-) ), I doubt that can do much harm to the equipment, and if we're talking about bar tables, those won't make a difference at all. However, if someone is throwing cues or balls around, is continually shooting at a rail at full power (without actually playing), pressing a tip of a cue against the floor, damaging anything else in any possible way, or disturbing other people, someone has to react, let it be the bartender, the owner, or the customers.
where I used to play, I had a "special" table I always played because it had cloth in pretty good shape and was the most level one in the place. I walk in one afternoon and 2 guys were playing on it and one of them had the cue stick tip on the cloth rubbing it back and forth on the cloth making long streaks on the cloth...while I wasn't my table, I could not help myself, I asked him, "WHAT THE F**** ARE YOU DOING"? he quit and I went to the mgr and had their ass moved to another table!! (stupid F****) :banghead:

It is suggested that you never sit on your table or any other pool table. Not only do you run the risk of throwing the table out of level but you could cause the rubber to separate from the rails.
Anyone doubt that. Post the question in Ask The Mechanic. Or buy a nice expensive home table and ask your friends and family members to constantly lean and sit on the rails and bed. See what happens.

If you think so but I owned a pool room and have owned my own tables for 20 years and been sitting on them for longer than that. If it's my own pool room I don't let people sit on the tables just because that's not the place to sit not because I think it damages the table.
Therefore in someone else's pool room I am not going to chastise the other patrons who are sitting on the tables.
Not your property why would you care. How about your best friend owns a room. Customers have drinks on the rail, are sitting on the rail ....would you tell your friend his tables are at risk
