WOW! I remember this guy.

The only thing I've ever seen of him is on that Accu-stats invitational where he was undefeted till he self-destructed an almost certian win of the tournament by blowing a match with Bustamonte then losing the play-off with Reyes.

Sure- Now that they see those IPT checks are not bouncing, everybody is all in. The qualifier fields are getting bigger. Looks like this thing is gonna work for awhile.

You are sooooo right. With the IPT we are seeing ALL the players coming out of the woodwork.

Once the PGA made it big in the 60's that was the END of all those stories about some club pro who was better than Hogan. No gambler could make as much as the touring pro's; all the best players were known, and striving to get on tour. It's good for the game.

Of course, it will be BAD for the pool forum members who will have less opportunity to speculate about all of the "greatest ever" players that no one has heard of.

Roger was one hellof a 9-ball player and seemed to always play well under the shot clock.
The one event I will never forget him winning though was back in the mid 80s in Denver Co. Many of us used to hang out in a bar on Santa Fe called the Silver Dollar. It was Halloween and there was a costume contest which Roger won. Now Roger is over 6ft tall and probably weighed about 230 at the time. This will take a little imagination, or maybe one would rather not, but Roger's costume was that of a Ballerina.
There was a weekly 8-ball tournament going on at the same time. When Roger bent over to shoot, well, like I said earlier, maybe you would rather not.
The late Al Hogue nearly died laughing. What a sight.
 
I was wandering around the Riviera last May at the BCA and saw the Viking display. Since I have a Viking, I figured I would go kill some time at their booth. So I walk up and Roger G. is sitting there eating lunch. I didn't want to be the guy who was keeping him from his lunch so I kept the conversation brief. He seemed like a really nice guy.

He is a nice guy and never forgets a name or face.
 
Yeah, Roger's a class act, I believe. We happened to be sitting at the same table at a tourny in the south east around 10 or so years ago. I knew who he was but never met him. Three tables down a guy stands up and asks if anyone wants to shoot a game of 8b for $500. Roger gets up and they flip a coin. Roger breaks and runs out. They flip again. Roger wins the toss, makes it on the break. 8 ball match is over.

Well the other guy wants to shoot some one pkt. but Roger doesn't. I guess a lot of good 9 ballers are shy about one pkt if they don't have much table time at it. Anyway, Roger never indicated in any way that he knew the other guy, so I doubt he did. It might have been an interesting one pkt match. The other guy was Sonny Springer.

He's in the IPT qualifier at Pro Tyme in Chicago

I ran into Roger yesterday at the IPT qualifier at Pro Tyme where I was looking to connect with some old pals. I hadnt seen him in about 12 years. His wife Kristen is the daughter of the publisher of P & B magazine. I cut up jackpots with him, David Matlock, George Breedlove, and Scott Kitto.
