Unless there is last minute reprieve or repentance/ban withdrawal by WPA , number of players like Biado who played in unsanctioned ACBS/WPA events will be banned after World 8 Ball Championship (2-8 Sep 2024) about 2 months from now

simply get enough top players to boycott them and they will give in or go out of business.
or get together and start your own group who decides which tournaments they will enter or not.

or become slaves to who gives you nothing but a chance to win. at our expense.

No one talks about it. Really? There are dozens of threads on AZB that deal with this subject and there is relative unanimity on the point.

With few exceptions, and other than when the major championships coincide, most feel that the organizations need to get out of the way and let the players do what they have to in order to maximize their income. Yes, we all understand that because most of the pool organizations do not even try to work together, some of them are inclined to take extreme measures to protect their own interests, but we all ache for the day when the organizations, at least in part, work together to support the players.

I cannot pass judgement on ACBS because I know so little about them but, on the surface, it appears they act as a colleague of WPA, willing to do some of the dirty work with which WPA has becoming increasingly associated in the last two years.

To see Carlo Biado, one of our sport's greatest role models, treated this way is upsetting.

The ACBS -- Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports -- is the Asian member of the WPA, on the same level as the BCA and the EPBF.

Until about two years ago the Asian member of the WPA was the Asian Pocket Billiard Union – APBU.

I have not seen a good explanation of why the APBU was ejected from the WPA and replaced by the ACBS. It seems that the APBU was headquartered in Taiwan and the ACBS used to be the Asian Billiards (English Billiards) and Snooker Federation (ABSF). Mainland China seems to be heavily involved in the APBU and heyball became a WPA discipline when the ACBS showed up.

Or at least that's how it seems to me.

If you look on the APBU website, you can see the letter they sent out at the time of their expulsion from the WPA. Not a pretty situation.

ACBS were the ones who banned aloysius yapp from pool because someone (not yapp) in singapore participated in a niche carom/billiards tournament that wasn't sanctioned. probably the dumbest thing in poolitics ever.

i think this overly zealous, self important bunch is based in qatar.

I think by "No one talks about it" , Biado is referring to sponsorship/ funding thing that is not talked about. He does not get funding from ACBS/WPA or other governing bodies/govt so why doesn't he have freedom to participate in non-sanctioned events. As opposed to for eg. EPBF players who get funding from their sports bodies/govts if they participate in sanctioned events

We all know Matchroom is for the top pool pros. WPA is for top Amatuers.

Are the top amateurs ready for Matchrooms calendar of events? Its a big step up if you plan to score points of MR rankings.

Agreed, the issue could hardly have a higher profile among those passionate about pro pool.

Nonetheless, the interests of the players, the event producers, and the fans have largely been ignored as the dirty politics of the recent past continue to play out. In the end, the voices of those who have any stake at all in pool are not really being heard. They are all hostages to the whims of some of pool's governing bodies.

We all lose if Carlo Biado's involvement in tournament play is reduced. The fact that the crying out of all parties hurt by the limiting of participation of the game's giants in elite events continues to fall on deaf ears is disturbing.

ACBS is clearly the tail wagging the dog WPA. presumably because of chinese money (heyball). in the process they're not only losing biado, but just about everyone

I thought the materials the APBU put out told a pretty clear story of why they were kicked out. They became very vocal about some concerns with the WPA and certain travel expenditures of Ian Anderson. They were demanding financial statements. They became a noisy member and I assume Ian had enough sway and control to eject them. And the ACBS was formed out of some of the members of the APBU so I’m sure there was some horse trading involved. It’s just a bit odd because the ACBS was stronger with snooker and had no real bearing with pool, like the APBU had. But that’s what happens when noisy members don’t have support. And we’ve seen instantly that the ACBS is very controlling and punitive. Like banning Singapore pool players for something that happened in a different sport entirely.

if the players boycott those venues. then they go out of business and open a hole for a better entrepreneur or have to reassess their prohibitive policies.

if not then they let all know they are sheep and will bet eaten up and lose what chances they have to advance in life other then make a meager living at best. few currently make more than a bus driver in a major city. beep beep.
