WPA Bans 245 Players

What do you call 'proper'? That snoozefest called Chinese 8ball??
Any event which will not use that Black ball set. There gonna be plenty, like Buffalo's One Pocket and so on. Not necessarily Heyball, though this might be proper also. After all, Wu Chia Chin and Dennis Orcullo are there now

I think the only WPA events left will be the Chinese 8 ball, that ZERO Western fans (USA and Europe) give a crap about, W8B, W9B, W10 ball, and that's probably it. So an obscure game, plus 3 world championships. 3 actual "American Pool" tournaments each year.

Predator will make all their events non-sanctioned.

Whoever runs the 8, 9, 10 WC will have super weak fields. Especially in a few years. Right now, a few top pros chose WPA. The next generation coming up, none of them will chose WPA, so the WPA WC's will be even more watered down.

China Open, All Japan Championship, Qatar Open, newly introduced Ho Chi Minh 9-Ball Open, maybe some event in the US of A also.

And of course junior and women pool, which MR gives no tiny fk about.

And by the way I don't see any reason to hate Chinese 8-ball. Give it a try playing, it can be a pretty interesting game. I'm sure if more pool players appeared at Heyball WC or Masters, there would have been more love from current nay-sayers. Only drawback the game is so demanding, that even the mighty SVB can not handle it :)

Spot on here. The WPA is becoming more irrelevant as i type this. I imagine at Pred. HQ the powers that be are trying to digest all this and how to go forward. They'll llikely lose a boatload if the stay tied tight to WPA.

It's a little more than zero. It's a completely daft version of pool but it's surprisingly good and maybe you should give it a go.

But yeah, the WPA has it's fingers in it because the WPA has lost any soul it ever had. It will lose Heyball soon enough too....

Your 'boredom threshold' must be WAY higher than mine. I know very few that can watch more than 30minutes of it. ZERO excitement in that game. If that's the WPA's route forward then they are well-n-truly fk'd.

Hasn't MR had junior events at some of their stops? I think they know that getting juniors playing is key to long-term success. As for the gals, so far its not their deal. I'm sure they've crunched the #'s and don't think its worth the time/$, at least for now.

Women and juniors will really be screwed if the Predator tour stuff does not continue.

Surely you can't be serious? No one gives a flying F about Chinese or English 8-ball, except for the Chinese and the English. They are niche sports, like your Pyramid. I wouldn't care if Mosconi himself was playing Heyball, I couldn't watch it without falling asleep.

There are 8 to 16 youngsters invited during a major event. Entries by fees. Sum up all the names, and then compare the list to a routine Asian or European Championship. I'm not aware of the Asians in that department, but the Europeans compete at all four official disciplines of pool throughout a week, teams event also.
Telling ya, pool will be dead, as there will be no roots. Right now MR are harvesting on a ready product (ready players are up and at their service). Okay, alright.

Practicing both of the games you mock at would make you a better pool player overall. That is of course if you play, and also if you are interested at your skills development :) I know that for good as a game instructor, of a kind.

Whatever dude. You obviously have a major hard-on for Matchroom. That's your right but its also misguided. Without them 'pro' pool would still be stuck in 1st gear circa 2000. MR is in the 'PROFESSIONAL' as in MAKING MONEY pool business. The WPA needs to stick to promoting amateur pool because amateurs is exactly what they are. I'll take Hearn&Co. in ANY hi-stakes pissing match.

Time will show. I would happily witness the outcome where MR conquers their win and the WPA is gone. I'm already past that buzz which lasted for about 30 years. There are many DVDs in my collection which are still unpacked, because there are so many videos online...
But I know how pool under MR will look like (snooker and darts serve perfect examples). And I know it won't be as good as one imagines. Good luck to everyone of us, and save us pool gods!

In relation to money, you are right, and MR is not going to throw it away to pool players. Several years into WST (World Snooker Tour) with growing money and so on, and there are many players who realized they are not going to get a living off that. Barry Hearn likes to see it top oriented, meaning Gorst and Filler are wealthy stars, while a player who is top 60 or 70 material hardly receives anything. Get real :)

Snooker was deader than Elvis before Hearn and his wonder-child Steve Davis brought it out of the smokey old men's shitholes. Hearn and MR made pro snooker players household names and rich as hell too.

I thought 8 ball played on American style tables was the worst game ever invented. Boring as hell. Until I saw the same game played on tables with rounded pockets. Yuk.

hold the beer...

now that those are banned from WPA events, they can still play in non-WPA sanctioned events... conveniently the Pro Billiards Series Puerto Rico

there will be a new category of events "non-WPA sanctioned but it's okay" so that WPA-banned players will still compete

WPA has made themselves more and more irrelevant
Well with the WPA sanctioning events without the event promoters requesting or approving, does that mean, they'll attempt to ban people from events they have no control over??? LOL!!!!

"You're banned, You're banned, everybody's banned"

Well, "acquired the rights in perpetuity' sounds irrevocable to me. But I'm no lawyer. I doubt WPA _or_ MR can own such a generic term or sport anyway. Maybe in the UK you can, but I doubt you can worldwide.

Really what it boils down to is Predator and Cuetec, they are the only ones putting serious sponsorship money out there. If either the WPA or MR start seriously screwing with their bottom line, we will see what happens.

In the mean time WPA just keeps screwing players, fans, sponsors, and the sport. Brilliant.
A name is trademarked and you absolutely can own it as long as you keep it up to date.

Try making a car called Ford or Chevrolet if you doubt it.
