Even though I get what you are driving at.Good point. I think pool will grow each yr but to expect those kinds of payouts is a TAD premature. You gotta remember snooker was the no.1 show on BritTV with massive 'sin $$' as sponsors. But without MR it would be nowhere, still stuck in the post CamelTour-collapse days.

I'm not completely convinced on what Matchroom is doing. A very small number of pro players will be able to eke out a living playing strictly in Matchroom events, and that will not include women and juniors at all (Pia Filler made $2550 this year).
The Predator events included women, juniors, and at least while CSI was affiliated, were having large league championships alongside the pros in the US. There is also 8 ball, 10 ball, 1 pocket, banks, 14.1, none of which are done by Matchroom.
Pool is just shooting itself in the foot again, as usual.

Here are the top players from the "lifetime earnings" list. I think the amounts are in GBP. All but Hendry and Davis are current tour players.

I think there are other options for making $ at the game but the simple fact is MR is driving the pro pool bus right now. All the others have their place but are down the pecking order. If Predator would cut the WPA cord and go out on their own they could possibly be viable competition to MR. BTW, i had to file away that V-dude to the Ignore pile. His MR-hating bs got old.
Without MR these guys would have had to have side-gigs to pay the light bill.

American pool fanbase obviously has it hard realizing that those investments are going to serve about 20 to 30 players. Others will struggle even more than before WNT.

Agreed 100%. We both see their role as the same, but for the moment, it is not the role they are choosing to play.
They have some leverage and power because they still control the entry gates to some very high purse major championships in pool, such as the World 8-ball, the World 10-ball, the China Open, the Qatar Open, etc. They also have control of Heyball, a game I don't enjoy, but one that offers huge prize money.
As I said, however, this is just one chapter in the story being written.
It's no secret that I want Matchroom steering professional pool's ship, but there is still some competition for the helm.
And by the way I don't see any reason to hate Chinese 8-ball. Give it a try playing, it can be a pretty interesting game. I'm sure if more pool players appeared at Heyball WC or Masters, there would have been more love from current nay-sayers. Only drawback the game is so demanding, that even the mighty SVB can not handle it
i'm sure he would, if he put his effort into it. that's not the point. the WPA is pushing heyball as THE GAME now, just check their website. which is stupid to begin with, as it's supposed to be about american pool table games. if you think their motive for this is anything other than chinese $$$ you're delusional.
i don't even hate on c8b, it has its place. i like snooker and 3 cushion too. but don't force those games upon pool players.
That sure beats the 3 or 4 players that it was before MR's big push, and even then those 3 or 4 were getting a substantial chunk of their change from MR events.
