WPBA Midwest Classic

I talked with Collection Guru on the phone this morning (he is there) and said that Allison and Janette are still playing. I just called in my hotel reservations and will be headed out tomorrow morning to catch the afternoon and evening sessions, and then the semi-finals and finals Sunday afternoon. If the hotel has a computer, I might be able to post some results. I hope some of the top ranked women are still in the tournament. I am hoping to get some autographs, along with some pictures.

amanda lampert beat jennifer barretta on the one-loss side.

So...I am guessing that the final 16 from the winner's and loser's bracket will be played tomorrow?

Anybody's guess?

Rachael Abbink vs. Val Finnie

I like Val in this one - anyone care to bet some V-Cash on it?

I'll take Val for V250. :-)

John

Hold on, I'm looking for a backer.

some matches are complete, but no updates to the brackets. :( here are some reports from friends who are there: metzinger won over lloyd. lampert and white tied 6-6 right now.

i wish i was there instead, but oh well. i asked about jasmin/fisher score, but they are just now starting.

Major upset to my mind is Susan williams beating holley sholes then Janet atwell. Susan nothing personal.I hope you will say hello to me next time we run into each other.

I'd love to see Jeannette Lee take this down. She hasn't won since the Florida Classic ...I believe 3 years ago...maybe 4. Of course theres others that I'd like to see win it too...Monica Webb for one. Johnnyt

Final 8 from the Winner's bracket...

Allison Fisher
Joanne Ashton
Helena Thornfeldt
Sarah Ellerby
Xiaoting Pan
Jeanette Lee
Gerda Hofstatter
Karen Corr

on the 1 loss bracket they are down to 16 players... here are the match -ups

Julie Kelly Vs GYK
Tiffany Nelson Vs Monica Webb
Rachel Abbink Vs Kim Shaw
Liz Ford Vs Jasmin Ouschan
Melissa Little Vs Anna Kostanian
Ewa Laurence Vs Dawn Hopkins
Kim White Vs Kelly Fisher
Jennifer Chen Vs Vivian Villareal

I believe these matches will be played this morning and this afternoon, afterwards, the final 16 will re-draw and it will be single elimination.

Now it's getting a little more interesting. #1 Allison Fisher, #2 Karen Corr, #3 Xiaoting Pan, and #7 Gerda Hofstatter are all safely through on the winners side, but #4 Ga young Kim, #5 Monica Webb, #6 Kelly Fisher, and #8 Kim Shaw are all on the "B" side of the draw. It's rare that just four of the top eight ranked players reach single elimination through the winners bracket.

Nice work by #10 Thornfeldt, #11 Ellerby, #12 Jeanette Lee and cinderella story Joanne Ashton for already guranteeing themselves a spot in the single eliimination stage.

All 16 seeded players and Jasmin Ouschan are among the last 24, so despite several upsets, every single one of the big guns is still in with a chance.

The random draw of the eight losers bracket survivors may decide a lot in this one, as players like Ga Young Kim, Monica Webb, Kelly Fisher, Kim Shaw and Jasmin Ouschan are among those likely to be part of it. Trying to pick a winner is best left until after the random draw.

All things considered, this event is shaping up as a beauty. Good luck to all the lovely ladies of the WPBA today.

Got to disagree just a bit, Katie Cowan is from NC and playing in her first pro event and beat Alice Rim, pretty surprisingly, 9-2. Alice has been playing really well, and I think that is a pretty big upset.

I have known Katie for several years, and watched her game continually improve. I'm glad to see her playing at this level. She is one of the most dedicated players I know, and while she still has a little way to go, I think she has the potential to be a regular on the tour.
