This is going to sound funny, but I'm a little confused about how they are doing the seeding. Did I miss something that said how they did that??

Good question.

That was my thought, too. It really seemed odd that Jasmine would be so low in that field. Also Karen Coor 5th? When did this happen?

I was curious because I did a comparison of the year end rankings and the seeded list. Obviously I noticed that my own name was nowhere in the top 32 list even though I finished 28th (not something I'm all that happy about). I also noticed that people, and i'm not putting them down because they are my good friends and I am happy for them, were ranked in the 40's but are now seeded in the mid 20's. I'm just kind of wondering if I missed something. Are these the rankings for just last year without the roll over points being factored in?

Ok. Seriously now. Why are there so many so hyped up about Jasmin Ouschan?? Ive seen her mentioned often on here like shes supposed to be great or something when from what I see here nothing really warrants it.

So it looks like shes won ONE real tournament and placed high in a couple of others. What the hell makes her so special other than shes.. what.. a blonde?

Anyone? Dont flame me. just educate me as to why shes so special over the others who in my opinion are better.

That's a serious question.. no sh*t talking. Why do you think she should be seeded high at all??

She plays great and keeps up with the men. She is going through the process just like the rest of us. She didn't compete in every tournament last year so this will be her first full year I believe.

CUBC, I clicked on your first piece of "evidence" and it proved that Jasmine deserves to be seeded higher than 18th. She placed 2nd in this event last year and in every other event listed she placed higher than 18th. Many times a lot higher. I was not saying she is "so special", nor do I base my opinion on the fact she's a blonde. (Why do you even make that extrapolation?) I just believe that 18 is a very low seed for someone of her ability. I think it has more to do with the politics of pool. She doesn't participate in the WPBA as much as they want her to, so they underrate her.

If you dont mind me asking then.. if it were up to you how would you seed the players? I was looking at overall performances for the year instead of one individual tournament.

I wasnt calling you out specifically as there seems to be a lot of comments about how shes so good on the forum and also how people say shes hot and what not (hence the blonde comment :)) But looking at her performance vs others.. I just dont see her as a top contender yet. I know shes young and plays great but as of right now I personally dont think she deserves a higher placing.

So how would you seed the list?

Thanks,
Chris

CUBC,
Please read my posts fully before you reply. I already told you that Jasmine placed above 18th in EVERY tournament you listed for her last year. Now you come back and say I based it on one tournament. STOP PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH.
I'm also not going to seed all the players. I only expressed surpise that both Jasmin and Karen were underseeded.

I didnt say you were basing it on one tournament.. calm down there buddy. Ah anyway.

I'm sure by the end of this year I'll see what all this Jasmin hype is about. :)

In an interview I saw with Allison F., she stated that the new seedings are based on the last 4 WPBA events of last year.

Ask anyone that has seen her play. She is a monster. I am pretty sure that when she gets settled into the WPBA format that she will excel.

Funny story time: Last year at the BCA I was watching her play a match and Shane was sitting next to me. Jasmine crushed a break and I looked at Shane, he says "She breaks goooood" LOL

I want to say good luck to Sarah, Monica and Anna K this week. The TAR DCC booth crew. All great players and great people.

Yea we were watching her on tv once and seen her break and my gf and i were both like damn... she hits em hard for such a lil girl :)

I know she plays pretty well but I would like to see more of her finishes before putting her above the others.

If Jasmin plays all the tour stops this year she's in the top 10 at least at the end of the year. Johnnyt

Thank you for that. I was really confused reading that list at first. I would've understood moving Kelly Fisher up since she is the 3-time defending champion (and that would've bumped Corr to 5th since Karen is now ranked 4th).

I don't know how I feel about the seeding. I don't mind the usual "using the rolling rankings." At the same time, I understand using the last 4 tournaments, as it seeds players based on recent performances.

I guess this ties in with the article AZ had that talked about using new rankings. Everyone starts at zero in the new year. Using the last four tournaments would tie in, I guess.

However, I thought it would be like the tennis rankings. The rolling rankings are used for seeding in tournaments. The yearly rankings are used to see who had the best year and to see which players (the top 8) get into the Year Ending Championships. I think that would be a good thing for pool. Use the rolling rankings for seeding, and have the top 8 at the end of the year (based only on 2008 tournaments) compete in the Tournament of Champions.

Where to start...

Her achievements from 2005-2008:

Youth Worldchampion

Winner of World Games

9th, Quarterfinalist + 2 times semifinalist in the World Championship for women (Who else of the women have 2 medals in the last 3 years at the WC?)

Eurotour Germany Open (Women) Champion

BCA Open 2006 Champion

5th World Straight Pool Championship (Men, lost to Hohmann, who won the event)

9th at the World Straight Pool Championship (Men)

3rd at BCA Open

2nd at San Diego Classic

3rd at Norwegian 9-ball Challenge (Men)

9th at the Eurotour Austria (Men, 256 players)

Winner of European qualifier for World 8-ball Championship (Men, 74 players in the tournament, among them several champions such as Thomas Engert, Darren Appleton, David Alcaide and a lot more I can't remember right now)

IPT Qualifier

3 x European 14-1 Champion (2005,06,07) (She ran 75 and out in the semifinal, race to 75, and 76 and out in the final (race to 75) in 2007.)

High run of 127 in 14-1

2 x European 8-ball Champion

1 x European 9-ball Champion

(In total she has 22 medals in the European Championships, in the girls and women divisions. Not bad, considering there are only 3 EC every year)

I think she has achieved a lot more than just winning "one big" tournament
