WPBA Southeast Classic

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Anna will beat Jennifer Barretta in her next match.

I think you're right, she is the real deal. I need to get down to Albuquerque and watch her play some.

I'd be far less surprised if Pam Treadway were to beat Lee. Pam is very experienced and has dominated at the regional level, usually an omen that a player has fine prospects as a professional.

Anna Kostanian, on the other hand, though very talented, is probably not sufficiently experienced at this level to be knocking off seeded players. There's a big difference between knocking on the door against a strong player and beating them. Anna has a bright future, but that bright future is probably in the future.

Pam Treadway, on the other hand, looks armed and dangerous and if Jeanette is off tonight, an upset may be brewing.

I have to agree with you (as usual ;) ) Pam is so strong at the regional level. She's got some road experience under her belt too if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure that helped play a role in how focused and determined she is. She's so mature for having just turned 18 and she's got alot of heart. She's been down (Sarah had her 5-1 in her first pro event & she shook it off & came back to win!!!) and she never gives up. There's a ton of 18 yr olds (and much older even) that would've given up. I've yet to see or hear of her giving up.

Nothing would tickle me more than her snapping off this whole thing. Melissa Herndon, you're still my fav, coolest chick, but Pam is so damn cute & energetic. Melissa, I'll be cheering ya on to win the next event. ;)

Fri Nite

Treadway loses to Lee- both played bad- Pam is the real deal- a VERY mature game- not a kid's game at all- knows when to play safe, when to accept mediocre position etc.

Norrris over Little
Barretta over Ellerby
Morris over Thornfeldt
Villareal over Schjodt
Atwell over Biddle
Hofstadder over Nelson
GYK drills Huang

Well this will probably get me put in Gremlins permanent dog house but what the hell. MELISSA SEND THAT OTHER FISHER OVER TO THE DARK SIDE!!!! :D
I hope that the "Little" Melissa and Jenn have the best matchup they've ever played.(not gonna pick favorites in this un)
All the best to Sarah "KABOOM (and take that and that)" Rousey! :D

I'd like to here more from those of you aquainted with Christy Norris and Pam Treadway they both appear to be serious booty kickers.

Terry

Wow! I am so impressed with Christy, she is from North Carolina and earned her spot from the SEAL tour. A very good player, with a knack for fishing the 9 ball (and I mean intentionaly) and a very sweet and supportive family. Go Girl!

Thanks for the update. I really wish Pam could've beaten Lee, but I guess she can't win 'em all her first time out of the gate... or can she?!?!? The one loss side is brutally strong, but it's quite possible... (fingers crossed)

Nostroke, I normally don't watch the women play but she impresses me with her precision play and how mature she is on & off the table. I can't help but watch her when she's shooting. The general assumption from most that I've talked to while watching her play (men pro players included) she's the real deal and definitely has a fututre in this game.

Timberly, some comments are to be taken lightly in women's pro pool. I really hate to say this, but, it often seems to me that every time a male pro sees a woman that can run four balls, they proclaim them the next star of women's pro pool. The men pros, on average, show little comprehension of how well the best women play. If, on the other hand, one of the top women pros predicts greatness for an emerging woman pro, it usually means a lot.

I've always looked to the WPBA regonal tours to find the next stars of women's pro pool. Sustained superior performance on the WPBA regional tours is the ultimate tipoff that an emerging WPBA player has what it takes to succeed as a pro. Players that have dominated at the regional tour level in recent years include Melissa Herndon, Jennifer Barretta, Sarah Ellerby, Kim Shaw, Ga Young Kim and Kelly Fisher, all of them very high ranked players on the tour now. In short, for me, it is only because Pam is dominating at the regional tour level that her prospects seem so bright.

Pam got some very valuable experience playing #3 Jeanette Lee last night and will get even more playing #2 Corr today, but she is just beginning the process of building her competitive pedigree. Although Pam's future looks very promising, she and her fans will have to be pateint as her game develops.

Believe me, I've heard it... When I used to shoot pool, guys would talk like that...pro or not. Some thought I really had game & some were probably just hitting on me. However, I will say that one of the pro's that's very impressed with Pam, generally is not impressed by women players. Withouth naming names, there's some very popular female pros that obviously shoot well to be where they're at and he's not impressed by them at all. I noticed right away the contrast in his thoughts about Pam. My thought being, and part of his too is this... if she plays this strong at 17 (whoops, just turned 18) and she continues to focus on the game and stays a straight road, she's only going to get better and she's got her whole life ahead of her to do so. The possibilities are there for her to go far in this game. It's up to her to maintain and make it happen, but it's something that she could very well do. ;)

Ummm, her fans have spoken....she is to be known as OTHER! I am gonna bet that Steve will use this in a tourney before the end of the year. :D

Anywho...I wish I was at this tourney...lots of falls and good battles.

Sarah...you're taking a bit of the long road now, but it is do-able. Don't hesitate...JUST SIGN!!!! The revelation MUST be revealed soon. ;)

Pamela, the New Kid on the Block!

I first met Pamela Treadway when she was a mere 15 years old, competing at the Glass City Open in Toledo, OH. She was the only female who entered the male-dominated tournament, and she cashed, taking down a few heavyweights along the way, which caught everybody's attention at that time.

I never got the opportunity to see Jean Balukas play when she was a young'n, but I have been told by those who were around Jean and saw her compete quite often when she was growing up and developing her game that Pamela Treadway plays as strong as Jean did in her younger years. I predict that Pamela Treadway will dominate the WPBA Tour in a matter of no time. The young lady hasn't even reached her peak and she's already creating a buzz. Women players at events I have attended are definitely checking her out and, quite frankly, in awe of her maturity, focus, and straight-shooting capabilities.

Now, having said that, Monica Webb got the sweetest draw on the charts (IMO), and I predict that Monica will advance to the semi-finals and, maybe, the winner's circle. That's my prediction and I'm sticking with it! :p

Hope your right JAM. I've thought Monie has been due for quite awhile.I think her draw is very tough from here on out though. Megan seems to be really on her game right now.

Hey Landshark,
Your PM sounds good. Or maybe a Diane Hoppe special (and have Diane send the bill to "Harry" :D )

I saw Pam play when she was alot younger than that. She used to come to Fremont, OH and play at a place called Strokers. Strokers has been out of business for 4 years and I havent been therer for at least 5 to 6 years. She is a very talented player originally from Michigan. Glad to see her game has taken off and she is doing well....C-Man

This tournament is a getting seriously WEIRD. With sixteen players left, the top sixteen seeds are down to ten:

Seeded Players Still Left on Winner's Side
K Fisher, M Herndon, G Hofstatter, J Lee, M Webb, GY Kim

Loser's Side
A Fisher, K Corr, T Nelson, J Barretta

Congratulations to unseeded players M Minerich, C Norris, J Atwell, M Morris, L Smith, K White for conspiring to deny some of the game's most elite the kind of finshes they are more accustomed to.

Overall, what a performance by the unseeded players in Florida this weekend!

I like this. I think it's long overdo. At the level these ladies play there is no reason why it should be the same thing every tournament. This trend seems to have started at the Canadian classic last year and has been gradually increasing ever since.

Thanks PJ. There was something of a return to normalcy in the winner's bracket quarterfinals, with the higher seed prevailing in all four matches.

Each of the four left on the winne'rs side would seem to have a very realistic shot at claiming the hot seat, and the #3 ranking on the WPBA Tour is within reach for all four of them.

The prospects are very exciting. Jeanette Lee has a chance to defend her title at WPBA Florida. Monica Webb is well placed for a chance to become the first American-born woman other than Jeanette Lee to win a WPBA title since 1998. Kelly Fisher has a very real chance to snap off her second title. Ga Young Kim, the reigning World Champion and US Open champion, can add to her growing legacy. Then again, Allison Fisher or Karen Corr might just make a run at the title from the loser's side.

And if that's not enough excitement, there's an all "Ask the Pros" contest between Herndon and Barretta in the next loser's bracket round.

All things considered, I'm seriously jealous of all who are there to watch the drama unfold!
