WPBA Streaming the Women's Open

Who's brilliant decision was it to NOT stream this years WPBA US Open?
All i can say is "Get with the program" and welcome to the right side of the millenium. Huge mistake! Livestreaming is the greatest thing for pool since some lucky sob accidentally stuck his shaft through the ceiling and invented the chalk.

I wonder whos not showing up for the Open? Is it the top pros? The regional players that won qualifiers? Or both? From what I have been reading here (WPBA has said nothing) maybe they SHOULD change the name of the tour to the Top 16 or THE WE DON'T CARE ABOT OUR FAN TOUR. I know I'm done with it in every way. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you didn't read the entire thread before you posted.

This is the first time I ever had to pay to get in to watch the Pro-Am for the US open or the the other WPBA events I attended.I did not mind paying for it but wanted to mention that it has not been customery to pay for the pro-Am at the WPBA events.I understand that the casino keeps the gate Funny thing is that I bought the ticket but did not go to watch.

I'm definitely not done with WPBA, but I certainly agree that they should put in a lot more effort on pleasing us fans...

The lack of info is frustrating and I can see how some of you are upset but there is more to this situation than the WPBA simply not caring.

I haven't kept up to date on all the current issues with the WPBA but the thread titles alone have told me that the tour (what is left of it) is in crisis mode.

In this economy, (like many others) they have lost host venues and sponsors. They hardly have any tournaments scheduled and they have serious board member issues right now.

They used to have better coverage than they have right now but they also used to have more sponsors and host venues and their board members used to work together.

It just seems to me that the WPBA has hit a really rough, turbulent, down & out time right now and I don't think anyone from the board members to the players and fans are happy about it. Don't kick 'em when they're down, have some patience and give them a chance to get back on track.

I sure did. Not once did i see a name mentioned. Some anonymous no good retired pool wannabe i bet?

No webstreaming from OK. The casino does not have enough public bandwidth to give the WPBA.

Event isn't being streamed due to lack of bandwidth...same as it has been every year we have been at Riverwind. I have several emails from the casino itself about this topic...so I know of what I speak.

You claim to have read the thread but yet after the two above posts, you still posted this -

You can handle the reading part but its the comprehension that gets you?

If you read the entire thread, then what part of "THE CASINO WOULDN'T ALLOW THE STREAM!" did you not understand?

TKM <----- says reading has become a lost art.

That is such a load of BS that that modern casino can't provide the measly upload bandwidth needed to stream one table at an average quality. I’d give more weight to BigTruck’s statement on the casino thinking it would hurt the ticket sales. I like how on the casino’s website they state “Complimentary high-speed Internet access” in all the rooms. ;)

How ‘bout use an aircard via a laptop? There have been a number of quality streams put out via that method. Or they not get signals out there? Sounds like the WPA event in Qatar. :embarrassed2:

Just wake us when it is over.:boring2:

Most every aircard plan I'm familiar with, the bill would kill you to stream an entire event. (I could be wrong, I often am.) Overages start at 5GB, and you would hit that easily, I would think. And I'm quite sure the quality would be quite poor. It'd be cheaper to pay for a dedicated line, I expect.

For the record, this is a casino in Oklahoma, not Vegas. They have enough bandwidth to offer internet access to their customers but if they allowed the stream, it would drain all of their resources.

Be glad they said no instead of go ahead. If they had allowed the stream to happen, you would be complaining about how crappy the stream was. Did you (try to) watch any of the TAR or accu-stats stream from the DCC this yr? Justin can tell you all about how bad a stream is when the facility doesn't have enough umph to handle a stream.

I have an aircard that puts out a beautiful stream AND it works at the casino. It has Unlimited airtime.

The issue here is exactly as I have stated earlier. The casino thought it would hurt the gate. I understand their point of view. As I mentioned earlier, educating the venues AND the promoters, that want the events streamed, is the key.

The stream is only one table, one match at a time. It a great opportunity to show off the venue and talk about all the great matches that are going on besides the TV table.

Time and time again, I have seen numerous people show up at the venue and say, "I'm so and so from the internet". Bottom line is, if they are close enough to drive and are able, they WILL be there.

ps. Don't waste your time responding to anonymous trolls. They are only here to stir up anger and cause trouble. ;)

Wether or not bandwith, coulda, woulda, shoulda been available, the sad thing is the Womens game needs all the help and support they can get right now. Any exposure would be good.

Makes me sad to see the state of the womens game because I have met a good few of them, not only are they great players they are really good people too with a pretty good product to offer.

I have already suggested to Matchroom that maybe they could try a Mosconi Cup type competition for the Women. I know it probably would not be USA v Europe, but how about Northern v Southern Hemisphere? If anyone could make it work I believe it's Barry Hearn and team over at Matchroom.

USA/Europe vs. Asia would be an interesting matchup.

Yup.. That's right. Casinos have their own free will nowadays.
If they're really grouchy, the doors will slam you in the face on your way in.
*sigh*
Seriously.. If whomever responsible for the poor decision bothered to get a clue. They would most likely realize that blaming it on poor bandwidth is just lame.
I'm entitled to have an opinion. Right?

Bigtruck,
If that was the reason for their decision it only reflects the greediness/petty mindedness of the decision makers of the casino.
History has shown repeatedly how powerfull greediness is and how it clouds the reason and logic.

V,

I don't think it was greediness/pettiness, I just think they were counting on the gate to re-coup their investment and thought, "why would people come down if they could just watch it on the internet."

Many venues don't realize that we simply do a few static cams and discuss all the exciting matches that are going on and talk about the venue.
