WPBA West Cost Classic

This is a very nice win for Arizona's Susan Williams. She recently gave up her role as president of the AWBT to concentrate on her own game. Looks like it is paying off.

Some winers are up.

Susan Williams(9)-Laura Smith(8).Shaw and Biddle winners.

[QUOTEJennifer Barretta and Megan Minerich were both beat by Helene Caukin. Helene is really playing well.
Sarah[/QUOTE]

I have been watching Helene Caukin for several years now and I can see where she has really improved. She played Sarah Ellerby at Capone's last month and was up two zip when Sarah pulled out her bag of tricks and started sharking (sorry Grem) and Helene lost concentration and ended up losing the match. But I think in the end it helped her. Can't play with the big dogs if you let little things upset you.

Her husband is her coach. (As far as I know)

Thanx alot for the updates, Sarah. :) Tough break on your match, but there has to be a winner and a loser...though I would have liked you to have been the winner. I'd call it the same way again. ;) The table rolled off?? Are you guys playing on the tables I normally play on or something??? YOU HAVE IT ON THE ONE LOSS SIDE.....

And NICE JOB Janet!!!!

It also appears that Laurance sent Nelson to the loser's side. I guess ol' Ewa got tired of the two and out game.

The match with Sarah and Melissa was a real nail-biter! Back and forth until the end as Sarah described. I apologize for not posting last night but I didn't get much sleep the night before and was exhausted by the time I got home at 1:30am! It was really tough watching the Barretta-Caulkin match as well. Caulkin got 5 quick games on Barretta with a 9 on the break a few early 9 ball combonations and a break and run. Jenn battled back but missed one or two key shots toward the end and Caulkin, although she missed a few shots, played excellent throughout the match. Well, I've got to hurry or I'll be late for the morning session!

Thanx Zack...anything you have when you have the time is great. IMO, you should be enjoying yourself first. I hope you are having a good time.

Filling in the brackets

Well the brackets haven't been updated from last nights matches on the winners side. Here are the winners, I guess we can just fill them in ourselves, lol.

Julie Kelly, Jeanette Lee, Melissa Herndon, Leslie Rogers, Vivian Villarreal, Janet Atwell, Sarah Ellerby, Karen Corr, and Helene Caukin

Some of these wins were mentioned in this thread and others, but here they all are plain and clear.

I figured Sarah and Melissa would be a fantastic match, it's just to bad our AZ girls had to meet up so early :(

OK. I have to fess up here. Sarah played better than I did during that match. A couple of untimely scratches on her part kept me in the match. I didn't play well at all to start that match....and even when it seemed like I was pulling it together and would run out a rack...I couldn't keep it going in the next rack.

At 7-7, she scratched on the 5-ball...I guess the table rolled off a little. That was a good break for me because she should have won that game and probably would have taken the match.

She and I both appreciate all your support...and for those of you who were rooting for her....I'm sorry. I really would have been happy for her if she had won!

I just wanted to take this moment to admit to you all that she should have won...and to let you all know how much I love and respect her! Wanted to give her the props she deserves!

Wow. That's unacceptable at a pro event IMO

Does this happen often? Somebody said the ball rolled off several inches.

Hey Wally,

It's almost impossible to make sure every table is absolutely perfect, especially when you consider how tables are made nowadays. I mean, we all assume that table rolls are due to an unlevel table. Even though this is the likely source, it's not the only one. Dirt accumulation can cause a roll and uneven slate can cause a roll. Yes, I've been witness to flaws in slate leveling.

If the tables were set-up just prior to the event, there is always a chance of a defect, even if the table passed typical leveling-tests. If the slate is uneven ANYWHERE, it may not turn up on a leveling device but you'll see it in play.

Melissa, IMO your are a GREAT person and shot. You have my total support...until you run into my sista again. ;) (And I'm sure the match up will happen again.)

That's another excellent point. Tables will continue to sink into the floor weeks (sometimes months) after they're set-up. New poolrooms will frequently need tables releveled once or twice in their initial months.

This has nothing to do with anything

Well while we wait for the updates, here is a picture of Tiffany Nelson down on a shot at Valley Forge last month. If you look really hard in the back ground you can see Shannon Daulton. And no Photoshop was involved...he is SUPPOSED to be there, as he too is playing. Enjoy!

Well guys...sorry to disappoint those of you who picked me as the winner of the Herndon/Rousey battle. I lost the match 9-7. I played really well I just couldn't get a roll....at least not a good one. At 7-7 I scratched on the 5-ball....turns out the table rolls off a good 4-6 inches....ouch. Then Melissa broke and ran out to win the match. Melissa now has to play Jeanette Lee.

Take care,
Sarah

You didn't win, but you played really well, and that is great. You are still in the game, you still got it, and you will use your sarcred cue'fu moves if needed, I'm sure (: Rock on, and we'll be routing.

I respect and route for both of you. Of course, you know that already. I had to fess up and make a decision. That's one thing I love about you Mel, not everyone would say what you just said.

Wishing BOTH of you the best, in this competition, as usual! Give me somethin' to brag about(that won't be hard, the way you two rock!),

Melissa and Sarah,

Wow! How cool is pool?

Here we are following a professional pool tournament on the internet and getting direct personal feedback from the players themselves during the event!

Say "Hi!" to Planet Pool star Sueyen Rhee for me and continued success to both of you.

No, this does not happen often. As a rule, the equipment used in WPBA events is excellent, thanks to Peg Ledman, who generally oversees the equipment setup. As a former top ten ranked WPBA pro, Peg has very high standards when it comes to equipment setup.

It's a shame that it happened on this occasion, but let's not generalize here. The WPBA tour is played on excellent equipment, and that has been true for a very long time.

The one WPBA rankings event in which the WPBA is not in charge of the equipment is the BCA Open. I'm sure more than a few will recall the problems with the equipment at last year's BCA Open, but this was not the fault of the WPBA.

The WPBA takes the equipment very seriously. Believe it!

Sitting next to Don is Patrick O'Neal from Baltimore - an avid pool fan and player.
