Please don't get me wrong, I never use the soft break. It's just not my style. But I don't see why anyone should be penalised or condemned for using it. A hard break is much more fun to see but it's the runout that follows that is more interesting to watch.

That's true... can't forget the runout. The soft break on this table may virtually guarantee a ball pocketed on the break, but the resulting spread is pretty confined to the lower half of the table, making for an interesting rack to play out after the break.

The soft break is not the problem, it's the dead corner ball. I don't mind the soft break unless the reason for the soft break is because the corner ball is dead every time. That's what takes away from the game, IMO.
 
Peach had to bank the 3 for a safety... Foldes has a safety on the 3 as well.

Peach tries to cut in the 3 into the corner pocket...misses. Foldes has another safety try... but, does it poorly. Peach now shoots the 3 and has good position for the 4.

Looks like an easy runout now for Peach.

Like you, I am grieving because my friend, Bustie, had to lose the match this way.

But, I can tell you right now, it was a foul. Just ever so slightly and difficult to see unless you're close up to the table like the ref was... or if you see it on replay.

On the other angles, it looked good. But on the overhead replay, the cue ball just ever so slightly hits the 9 first.
 
3 on the rail & the 9 on the rail. If that was me I'd have gone for the win. Hit the 3 with lots of bottom left & kick the 9 in! But that's just me. I'm good at that shot!
 
So, Peach does a Foldes and misses an easy 9. Foldes has a 9 foot shot at the 9 which is close to the corner pocket... so, its not a problem.

He shoots it in.

Score is Peach 2, Foldes 1.

Is Gomez playing right now against Boyes? I could hear shouting and the live scorecard have their names on the tv table 2. I thought they were going to have it after this match.

another mistake that will haunt Busty for a long time. it would have been ok if he lost due to a very difficult layout. but missing on a makeable 1 railkick and the match, is a hard pill to swallow. oh well, Busty lost due to his own doing. In anycase, Daryl deserves it. he gotta pass through some tough competition in his bracket to make it this far. Go Steve Davis !!! :D :D :D
 
Boyes does the hard break... shoots the 1 into the side pocket.

Boyes shoots the 3 ball combo (3, 4 , 6) and pockets the 6. Has an open shot on most balls now.
