Would it be flat layered or round? If it is flat layered would you turn it, through the layers or parallel?

I really don't know...I'm no cue maker I'm just looking for this because I like the look of it in the brown phenolic...but would like it made on a cue in black...because I really don't like the color brown in the joint out butt cap...but would like some black phenolic that shows weave when finished and not just be solid black...I am having having a cue made

The stuff I have is about 1.5 inches thick, flat layered, and made with a denim like material not linen. I haven't turned any round so don't know how it would look. I have used it for a butt cap on a pistol grip rifle stock, and it polished well.

I'll bet it would look cool! Kind of like the coarse brown Garolite, but black.
Hole saw some blanks out of that baby!

Sanded to 1200 grit, and then a little wax polish.

Wanna sell some or give me the source? It looks better when it's cut with the grain running lengthwise, 45 degrees to how you cut it. Basically cut it lengthwise with the slab. I'd like to get some of the 1.5" & the 1".

I've been watching this thread thinking "I need to take picture of the stuff I've got to see if it is what they want", so I finally did.

It is a 1" rod that I paid about $15/foot for IIRC.

I'd be happy to dig up the source if that what folks want.

Let me know

Gary

Hey Gary that looks pretty cool also look simular to the pic already posted cut different...does it come in 1.5 ?

I think I'd like it better if the pattern went around rather than lengthwise. I have used brown Garolite that way and liked it. I cut it from 1" flat stock.
I wonder if this black stuff comes that way. It has the weave I like.

The name of the company is Port Plastics - they have an office here in Denver. They were real easy to work with.

Here is their website: http://www.portplastics.com/plastics/laminates/NEMAGradeCECanvasPheATL.html

Minimim order was 4ft. According to the page I referenced above, it is available in diameters from 1/16" to 6".

You will have to see 1) if there is a sales office in your area http://www.portplastics.com/aboutus/index.htmland 2) contact them for a price. They will probably have to order it for you, but mine took about a week or so.

Glad I can give back a little something to everyone, given that I have taken so much from here.

Did you realize that their supplier is Atlas, as in Atlas Billards??

Unless they sell it cheaper, and I wouldn't think they could, why not just order direct?
