Everything has been settled then....

The "Son Of Pool" To Conquer The "Cradle Of Pool"

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - EFREN “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Lee Van Corteza and Ronato “Ronnie Calamba” Alcano. All of them are in his victims’ list.

But just as Yang Ching-shun thought that he had beaten all the best Filipino cue artists, he was wrong for there is this guy named Dennis Orcollo he has yet to conquer.

So the “Son of pool” is coming back to the Philippines to meet its reigning money-game king, and once and for all complete his mighty conquest of the billiards capital of the world.

Yang will face-off with Orcollo in a race-to-60 match dubbed as “The Golden Pool Classic presents: Dennis Orcollo vs Yang Ching-shun it’s all about the money… and more” slated on April 20 to 22, and tentatively set at the Gateway Mall in Cubao, Quezon City.

Besides the prestigious claim of being the money-game king of the world, Orcollo and Yang will also dispute the $10,000 at stake in this three-day contest organized by the Bugsy Promotions and Rocketman Enterprises.

Though he holds no major title, the 28-year-old Yang is the most feared player in Chinese-Taipei that even the likes of his compatriots, former world champions Fong Pang-chao and Wu Chia-ching have taken his wrath.

“ Yang is really the best Taiwanese player today,” said Bugsy Promotions head Ceferino “Perry” Mariano.

“He may not be as popular as Fong and Wu, particularly to many of us Filipinos, but Yang is a very great player that almost everybody is afraid to face him, especially in a long one-on-one match like in money-game,” added Mariano.

“He is the money-game king of Taiwan.”

And he is trying to extend his territory to the Philippines.

During last year’s World Pool Championship, Yang, though not faring well in the tournament proper settling for just a round-of-32 finish, has created quite a tremor outside as he waylaid one after another all the players he met in a privately-arranged money-game matches reportedly.

Among his victims then was the former world no.1 Bustamante, whom he siphoned P150,000. Even Alcano, the eventual WPC champion, did not escape Yang’s fury, surrendering P150,000.

It was in Taiwan, meanwhile, where Yang demolished Reyes and again Bustamante.

“ It’s only Orcollo the remaining top Filipino player who Yang has yet to meet. That’s why we arranged this match to know if that Taiwanese guy really has the Filipinos’s number,” said Rocketman top honcho Ramon “Mon” Tuason.
The 28-year-old Orcollo is heavily regarded as the best money-game player in the Philippines that no one dared to challenge him except in a handicapped match with him giving the opponent an advantage huge advantage most of the time.

Moreover his home soil, this Surigao del Sur native has been making mammoth waves in the international money-game scene, most recent of which was in the 2007 Derby City Classic in Kentucky a couple of weeks ago, where he stole the spotlight from the tournament proper by winning a couple of nationally-televised side events in sweeping fashion, as well as a number of money-game matches.

Unfortunately, Orcollo is not as lucky in formal tournaments, where his greatest achievement so far is the title conquest of the 2006 World Pool League.

In that category, he ranks below the likes of world champions Efren "Bata" Reyes, Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan, and Ronato "Ronnie Calamba" Alcano, all of whom he usually beat in the money-game.

Yang also has ever said he wasn't familiar with Orcullo, and never met Orcullo before.

Well, seems like Yang was being unappreciated for not holding a World Title, but he has proved to everyone that he is definitely the "World Champion of Money Games."

Who else will line up against Yang now?

How about any of the known US Champions?

I'd like to see him play Rodney a set of Ten Ball, like 15 or 20 ahead. This is where Rodney shines, long grind out sets. I don't know if Yang could hold up in a long match like this. And I consider Rodney America's best right now.

Hell, I might even bet on him (Rodney).

i just want to add

first congrats to yang, hes awesome.the thing that bothers me though is people are like what a slaughter etc, etc.i have played ismail paez before playing races to 15 .we played about 10 sets for decent money in 99-2000.anyway at one point i remember being like 18 games loser at the end of one day.the next time we ended i was 15 games winner.i guess my point is idont think being 20 games down after 3 days of play means you cant win.yangs break was on and he might have broke dennis down.this is half the reason most players wont match up ,its because after they lose everybody talks like they got robbed and cant win.in my opinion if dennis and yang play a race to 1000 9ball they would both get past 950 which i would think means they are about dead even.anyway that my two cents .i type so slow it felt like two dollars .lol john schmidt

I don't side with anyone, but I think Yang winning the match is a good thing.

The humbled Pinoys will now be very eager to exact revenge on the Taiwanese. So let's expect some more exciting matches between them in the future. It will be even better if someone organizes a team competition just like the Mosconi Cup.

Wouldn't it be great if the organizers came up with a mosconi type competition between the Philippines and Taiwan.

Great minds think alike. It is being discussed as you write.

Yeah John, I have to agree. I think the common player just doesn't understand how infinitesimal the differences between top players really are.

I end up saying to more people than I would think that a really good player giving even the seven out to someone does mean much. most of the people who can get out to the seven are going to get out to the nine most of the time.

That was tough missing that nine for the match against Johnny in that hold em' match. sorry about that.

That's basicly what I said above. Johnnyt

The next pinoy players to put in a money game would be Van van, and Gabica.

Not trying to put Alcano down, but in my opinion, these two are the most deadly, although Alcano is more famous.

Why dont a promotor fly these guys to Vegas, and put a team of US, and Taiwanese, to play against them? I like to see a reality show format on TV, would be very interesting.

May be three players in each team.

It was a cruel thing Yang did to the Pinoys, on their home turf nonetheless.
Cruel?...yup, but I bet the Pinoys would say they respect Yang even more with this victory (not that they didn't respect Yang before).

That isn't to say that the Pinoys will stop considering matching up with Yang. I'm sure there are at least 5 others that would still want to gamble with Yang even at any given time...and I'm confident Dennis is still one of them.

Hopefully it would get more coverage than USA vs. Korea. Which has been going on this week. Betcha didn't know that, beings that I haven't seen or heard one flippin update...

I wanna see Reyes-Bustamante VS Chao-Yang, sort of "master-student" team, in a longer match.

Alcano VS Wu is also good, but I think the "hoopla" will be decided by the Asian 9-ball tournament. If they go head-to-head in the tournament, their match-up might be more compelling.

I don't think it should be like Mosconi Cup format though. I'm thinking of a more dramatic impact. It will be great if for example Top 20 from each country, 10 matches in the Philippines and 10 matches in Taiwan, simulcast.

This will give a better insight on who rule that side of the world.

But that thing isnt even a legit event IMHO. I think Charlie Williams and Jeanette Lee are playing for Korea. Made for TV (Korean) baloney.

Yeah this is so true. It was just one of those days where Dennis could do no right. He got beat today. Badly.

But that by no means result into the pinoys not wanting to tango with Yang no more. Quite the opposite in fact!

It is because of this loss that all the more the pinoys would be hungry for revenge. Yang is the target.

By this win over Dennis, in such brutal fashion, Yang has set the bar and thrown the gauntlet. Pinoy's would be lining up to take Yang's blood.

Any next few matches of the such would definitely be more exciting! BRING 'EM ON!!!

Congratulations to both players, it sounded like Yang's break was the difference in the match. Hopefully we will see something like this again in the near future!

Well, a Korean friend of mine says that Koreans embrace Jeanette Lee as one of their own. Bonafide celebrity with name recall and pool is a popular sport (more like recreation) there.

She has better name recall than Ga-Young Kim apparently. My friend didn't even know the name and was surprised that they had a two-time women's world champion. Sad when you think about it.

Sorry for the OT. Congratulations to Yang, as I realize I never mentioned it in the forum before.

Great! I hope they stick wireless mics on Efren and Busty if they ever pair up for scotch doubles. I've seen an Efren-Busty vs Chao-Yang but it was a trick shot doubles friendly...was quite hilarious too.
