I have used the same cue for 8 years and I have an unlimited choice of cues to use so I have to say it really plays well. It's not an easy wood to find but it is the truest yellow wood I know of. It is almost twice as dense as maple, dries very slowly, and glues well.
As far as sunlight affecting the wood I don't think so. I've had pieces of piquia out in my shop in south Florida for several years and it is the same color as the pieces that are in my wood storage room which is very dark. It it not like osage orange or purpleheart which get brown.
