Now, I'm not brilliant, but I'm no dunce.

We have been epitomising the definiton of crazy by continually doing the same things and expecting different results.

So I will issue this challenge-

If ANYONE who reads this, would simply join ANY other forums and tout the merits of our sport and find the common thread that leads the forum topic back to pool-
we will create a fan base within another realm of interest while supporting the interest of another forum.

EXAMPLE:
Cigars
Cars (pick a model)
Celebrities
Tennis
Golf

EVERYTHING LEADS TO POOL!!!
EVERYTHING LEADS TO POOL!!!
EVERYTHING LEADS TO POOL!!!

I see people here with 2,000 or more posts-

lets stop talking to ourselves and start talking to others!!

I told them on a golf forum that we pool players get rid of all the balls
that have dimples on them.....
....they think I'm a kook now....

:)

I've mentioned pool before on my two other forum "interests", musicians and fishing (odd combination, I know).

In both cases I found a few other players but it's hard to keep the conversation going without forcing it. Like if someone came on this site and was always mentioning bass fishing

I still think golfers are the best potential market for pool: put a ball, in a hole, with a stick. Hit the ball high, hit the ball low, spin the ball, push the ball. The similarities are scarey easy.

Hows about you explain to them how influential cue builder Richard Helmstetter was
at the helm of Ely Callaway's R&D Dept?
Callaway and Helmstetter created the Big Bertha Golf Club-

NEXT!

I understand your point, however-
I'd rather be the pool kook in another forum than the person who didn't attempt the cross over ;)

You say you want a revolution?
We all want to change the pool world.

I think you've got a real solution!

You can count me in.

A, with free thinkers like you, I can't help but believe that, everything is gunna be....alright! Thanks for doing what your doing. Xoxo. K.

and fishing

Fishing, you like fishing. Seems to me that I don't use my Lund to go water skiing.

There are more Fishermen on this board than you know about.

Just have to figure out how to do a pool related fishing story. That usually brings em out.

I got flamed out of a Porsche forum for promoting pool...no kidding! A Mustang forum has been more tolerant, but I doubt I got anybody to pick up a cue.

We on this largest pool forum could be a very powerful voice to change pool for the better. Let all types of sponsors know pool players and fans buy many of their products (and don't have to buy non-sponsors products...black mail...yes). 10,000+ e-mails to the right people can be a powerful tool. The problem is we as a group are pulling in different directions. Many have their own agendas, many have friends or idols that they always go along with no matter how they are hurting the growth on the game. There are many smart people on here to ask the best way to help grow pool so more of the mainstream public will play and/watch it. Until everyone in pool comes together with one voice, pool will continue to slide down more and more. Johnnyt

Hey Angel,

This is a great idea but people generally participate in forums because of specialized interests.

It is hard to promote another hobby effectively without being pushy.

I wonder though why I have never seen a single online ad for leagues outside of pool forums. The APA and other leagues should be the one advertising outside of pool. Why not an ad in Time magazine?

This is a good thread to come up with grassroots ways to promote pool. Got me thinking for sure.

I've done this before on a couple forums, just to see whos out there. Made a couple friends, and one even joined here. I don't know if he ever posted though. I'm not active much on other forums anymore. Just AZB for now. (pool is my only hobby getting much attention right now. TOO busy with kids and family stuff for the moment. I want to go fast again though someday...)

Just the other day I was cleaning out my coat closet...found an old Cuetec I had bought many years ago. Starting wondering what to do with it...decided to take it out to the garage, tie some line guides on...cut the tip off and drilled a whole in the ferrule, then epoxied a rod tip into the hole. Got an old Shakespeare spinning reel...piloted a few holes then screwed the reel onto the rod buttsleeve/grip area. Spooled the reel with some 30 lb. test Trilene and tied on the largest crankbait I could find in my tackle boxes.

First attempt at casting.....missed my target by 20 feet. :o Never could put the bait anywhere near the target...must have been the synthetic cladding on the shaft/rod ;). Maybe I should have worn a glove !!!

This setup sucked as a fishing tool....but made a great conversation piece. I ended up giving it to a buddy of mine (why he would want it is beyond me).

Does that qualify as a fishing/pool related story???

Fishing Story#1
My brother(former Navy) lives in Texas and has starting a fishing competition called
The Lone Star Kayak Series!
He plays great pool!
He is now a promoter and has grown his tournament from a small event to one that more have taken notice of in the Houston area!

Fishing Story #2
I lived in Missouri and used to drive a limo for a man who loved to drink and play pool, which was great, cause I liked to drive and play pool.
While in Branson, we went to the dams to go trout fishing.
I had never trout fished before and baited my hook with a huge worm- my boss laughed at me and explained I was wasting my bait, lol.

Fishing Story #3
I was fishing with friends in the summer and this asshat caught a bluegill and stuck it in the bikini bottom of the poor girl that was with us and the spiny fins tore her ass up!
She went back to the hotel while we went to go shoot pool and left the asshat at the hotel.

A friend of mine lucked into a Fishing reel bonanza!
Over 20 classic reels!

I always thought 1,000 sending stories and pics to TMZ, Conan, The Daily Show would be a great endeavour ;)
I've sent them, but I'm only one.
It'll take us all

I had a 1972 350SL with 31,000 originmal miles but it had been sitting-
I went there to advertise and got my ass handed to me for not knowing about cars until I explained I was a woman and included a picture with me and the car: then I explained why I was selling the car-
To complete my film on pool and billiards.
To help the people who play and the sport that I love.
After that, we were all on the same page ;)

Now I'm the bassist in a pool players forum. What can I do to get you guys grasp a bass? Not much I think. What I could do is maybe I can start a bassist-pool players thread here at the azb. I remember seeing such combinations over at talkbass.com too. I bet there's enough people who have several hobbies/interests on all sorts of forum sites.

The question is, what could be done to get people like myself involved in pool more? Keep pool interesting for the ones who love it but not primarily pool players?
