You know the shot... when you make it..

When you make that shot, you know is on the top end of 'average' and maybe at the low end of 'Wow'.

Do you secretly smile within and quickly go to the next shot as if that is exactly what you planned?

I know there are times I just want to let out a yelp that says.....YESSSS, and pump the fist... just like Tiger

But I don't, because I know I have to still shoot the 2 ball and the others to get to the 9 and the win. And there are the rest of the games that have to be won to win the match and still more matches to be won to get a chance in the finals to play for the Championship and those finals won't happen again for another week.

What a let down... maybe I can still learn how to aim while reading stuff on the AZ forums. Where is JohnnyT?

Nah, I just take the pleasure of hearing nice shot coming from the other people in the room and move on to the next ball and try to be cool. Then promptly miss, probably a very easy shot, by 6 inches, cuss and shake my head as I walk away from the table.

I generally grab the chalk and quickly move on to the next shot as if no big deal and try and show no emotion. I guess it does depend ono the senerio.

Especially when your opponent has walked away smiling because they think they have just locked you up with a safe - but - yes, you do see a possible shot, shoot it & it goes exactly as you planned.

One must always be like a cat "yeah, I meant to do that" (you know, that same look you have perfected when you have totally choked a 6 inch shot) :yikes::rolleyes::grin:

"Cat" or more like a 'snake' slithering away almost undetected...?

Yeah.. I know the shot. Or the ball in hand where you go from one side of the table to the other, only to find the side pocket with the cue ball. ... slithering..

Especially when the Pressure is really hot.

What a great feeling when that high percentage shot goes and you are lucky enough to get position because you had to turn the Cue ball lose. Position is sometimes the reward for making a great shot.

90% of the time the WOW shooter will miss either the very next or the second next shot- no matter how easy THAT shot is, because their mind still going, "Wow," "HOW did I hit that so sweet?," and "Damn, I'm so good, this game is easy." Sadly, by the 2nd shot after the Wow, the inning is often over.

It's a good idea to celebrate that Wow shot with a "victory lap" around the table. This walk will put the whole layout and table back into focus and perspective. Calling it a "victory lap" in your mind helps punctuate the celebration, too.

Done it more times then I care to admit but I'm working on not doing it. I was playing a safe the other day and cut the ball 7 feet up table. I had to hide my smile and let them think I can do shots like that every time. It took the wind out of their sails.

When I sink one of those "fine wine" shots, I grin smugly, strut like a rooster to the next shot, quickly get down on the next shot and miss it straight in the hole; all the while listening to the chortling and squeals of delight by the railbirds like if they were at a barbecue barking, "same guy", "haha" "I thought he could play" as I sit my humbled azz down in my too small of a chair.

I try

I try to stay calm and get into my rhythm and move to the next ball, and if I still have that jittery feeling about "Holy sheeeeet I just made that ball and it seemed impossible" I will come up out of my stance, take a deep breath and the immediately shank the next ball by 3 feet. :D

sounds like great advice!

That sounds like great advice. We often remember to regroup after a near miss or a fortuitous fluke but we need to regroup a few moments after a great shot too. I like the walk around the table idea.

I have to admit that my favorite thing to do when I see the trajectory is right to make the WOW shot is to get down over the next shot before it drops like I never considered any possibility of the ball not falling!

Of course when I'm honest I have to admit that all balls have to go somewhere and the table manufacturer was just considerate enough to put a pocket where that one went that time.

I love it when the guy (or gal) Im playing leaves me tough, and struts away like they just ate my birthday cake, and on the rare occasion I make a difficult hard-inside english-throw-cross-corner bank, the look on their face is priceless, lol. I love it when they start calling me lucky, or saying I shit the ball in, or whatever, lol. Its like they cant believe that I am capable of making a shot, lol. I usually end up losing, but hey, that hero shot is what keeps me playing.

Makes me immediately recall making an unbelieveable WOW shot on the 6 ball during a 9 ball tournament several years ago. I must have lost my self restraint and complimented myself by saying "what a shot" a little loudly. My opponent turned, and flatly, with just the right amount of sarcasm, replied "too bad we're not playing 6 ball".

Don't remember whether I won the match, but I remember to remain humble.

I usually just state: "Not everyone in 'insert hometown' knows that shot".

And Tom, I laughed when you said "but I dont, I still have to shoot the 2ball"....good stuff.
