This assumes a relatively straight in shot right? On a cut shot you can let the cue ball fly.
Mikey, I hope we aren't going back to last summer, where you were with Athens against the world? Not sure what it takes for the last five guys on the planet to see him for what he really is!! I was just at Big Dog's, and everyone in there tried to think of something good to say about him, but they just couldn't! What does that tell you?? You don't have to feel sorry for someone when he has brought this on himself, not just with this incident, but over years of playing pool. If you want, I can line up so many people that have know him over the years, and they can tell you how he has wronged them either in pool, or in general!! The guy is a scumbag!! I am not just saying this because of our personal issues, but because I never have like him for who he is as a person. He walks around with his nose in the air, looking down on everyone, and he thinks he really is a good person? NO!!Someone who was there figure out how to make cue-table work and set the darn shot up and use the arrows for the aftermath. Otherwise I am done posting in this thread. This thread really is at its expiration date anyway.

And I don't want this to turn into what it was then either. I think we have come along ways since then, and I am happy about that. Have a good weekend man!!I've had my share of falling outs with Athens as well, for that matter I've had my share of them with you. I am a grown man and I make decisions on people based on myself, you have been a very good person to me and even helped me get ready for State voluntarily so trust I got no ill will towards you. Athens and I have patched it up, your guys deal is on the two of you, I'm not shouldering any of it.
Right call or wrong call I think he's taking way too much flack for it. The call on the shot was controversial and I don't think anyone will ever know conclusively what the call should have been. Athens and his whole team say it was a foul. Everyone else in the room that saw said it was good. Either way it happened and it's prob about time for everyone to move on.
I can't add anything else to the thread to benefit anyone so I'll just watch from the sidelines.

That's what makes pool different from baseball though...we can be honest about the ref making a bad call and make it right. I would rather go down being honest than win by letting the refs bad call stand. Integrity in the game of pool is lacking, but there are still some guys out there that have that quality.
Looks like this is turning into an IOWA thread. I'm headed to the Maryland Bar Box championships today. There won't be any controversey there, there hasn't been in the last 2 yrs. If there is you probably won't read it here. Most of the guys in this part of the country have more class than to drag each other through the mud on a public internet forum.
It's been an entertaining read though.

How well do you know Mike Athens?
It has been an entertaining read, I will admit. However since you yourself are an admited APA skill level 5, I can certainly understand why you wouldn't see the importance of this call! Based mostly on the fact that you are not used to one bad call adversely affecting a match, and you normally getting 3 to 4 chances at the table every rack! However, when you are dealing with this level of master players who generally run 4 out of every 5 racks, one game is a huge swing!......
By the way, yes this is a public internet forum, however it is geared to the pool playing public, not the general public! That being said, I completely agree with getting second, third and fourth opinions regarding this matter.....
I will admit that there was a considerable amount of mud slinging, but you have to admit, reading mundane opinion after opinion would have probably become quite boring after the second page!![]()
Rest assured that if I foul I will pick the CB up and hand it to you.
Yeah I'm an APA 5 in both 8 and 9 ball. You ought to read all of my posts in this thread. Ablitiy and knowledge aren't always the same. A lot of people know more than they can consistently execute. I've only been playing 5 yrs, late to the game having discovered a love for it in my 40's.
I'm sure everyone involved in this thread is real a world beater yourself includedand while it is true that in the APA there are often many chances at the table, it certainly isn't the only venue I have played in. I'm one of tose guys that goes to the bigger regional tournaments and tries to compete in them. I am a donor at this point, but it's guys like me that make the first place purse worth competing for. I know going in that I am one of the weakest players in the room, but I go because the competition is something I can't get in the APA. I know I need to put myself into these types of situations if I ever hope to raise my game to it's maximum potential. My entry fee goes into your pocket because I want the opportunity to compete with the big dogs and gain the knowledge and experience that goes along with it.
I went 2 and out yesterday at the MD bar box championship (not an APA event) as I have for the last 2 yrs. I keep coming back with no realistic hope of winning, but with the goal of getting as deep as possible. There were 72 top regional playeres there like Ryan McCreesh, Brett Stottlemeyer, Matt Clatterbuck, Brandodn Shuff and a host of others of their or near their caliber of play. Not one controversy in the room.
It's sites like this and Dr_Dave, the Beard, Phil Capele, Byrne, and great instructors like Scott Lee that allow guys like me know more than they can execute, but the first step to doing is knowing what you are supposed to do.
So go ahead and belittle me for being an APA'r and maybe we'll see each other accross the table at Valley Forge or The Derby City (never been want to go) in a couple years and I'll show you what I know, and what I am capable of. Rest assured that if I foul I will pick the CB up and hand it to you.
You are right though there was some good reading here, I can just do without the personal attacks and the dragging of people's name through the mud. It is Ironic that the first part of your post points to me for playing APA in an attempt to discredit my opinion...

First, let me say that I also admire your honesty and integrity and wish you luck and continued success in improving your game as we all need to do so in some areas. As most pool players know, as soon as you think you know it all, you have just proven you have the most to learn.
I will start by saying that I have been to a lot of major tournaments with most the individuals posting these threads and please believe me when I say this is an isolated incidence. Had it not been, I certainly wouldn't have posted on their behalf. Do they/we have disagreements and an occasional arguements, sure we do, and I assume we will continue in some fashion. I don't expect anyone to sit silent if they feel they have been wronged!
That being said, I will admit I threw in your APA ranking as kind of a dig, and I will now apologize for that. I only did so because of the lack of class comment thrown towards a few of the Iowa players. I will also admit that yes there was some pretty intense mud slinging. However please take into consideration that this was a 5 day event that went on, and for the most part without incident. It was on the fourth day that this particular incident occured and it was after playing continuous pool for more than 12 hours a day for 4 days straight. That certainly doesn't excuse it, more so just giving you an idea of the level of fatigue, concentration and drive to win that was now present. The main arguement insued when "drive to win" became "drive to win at all cost" I think that has been a question that has been presented to us all at a certain point in life and I feel it is a big reflection of one's self as to how we answer it.
Good luck in your future matches and your ongoing quest to better your game.
Well said, thanks for the thoughtful reply. I personally don't have any problem with this thread Except for calling people out by NAME with the intent of dragging them down. This thread would have been just as good without the use of real names. Those involved know who they are, the rest of us didn't have a need to know and shouldn't have been told the who, just the what.
Like Dragnet, the names should be changed to protect the innocent, that's my point and the thrust of my "lack of class" comment. It was not intended to impune the class of all Iowan's. I've never met anyone from Iowa in person, but I call many of you from Iowa friends on this forum.

i work for DuPont, I'll be in Wilmington later this year, I will PM you and we will play some. If you don't know everyone involved, especially the way we all do, sometimes its best to sit back and watch.
