Actually, about three years ago before I became aware of this website I came across what may have been a Balabushka at an estate auction. Being totally ignorant about what a valuable cue looked like, I passed on it because it had pearl inlays and I thought it had to be ivory to be valuable. Whatever it was, I'm sure it was worth more than the $50 I could have bought it for.

First cue Crest. still have it, plays poorly.
second cue Lucasi, internet special, warped.
traded Lucasi for Baretta model McDermott.
traded McDermott for Schon stl 7 and I still have it.

First cue: "rage" brand... gift from my dad. I still have it, and now it's sporting an OB1 shaft. I love it.

Have:

3 or 4 'players' cues That I've been selling off b/c I don't really like them anymore.

'Players' Sneaky (cocobolo)- rubbed down with scotchbrite to dull the finish so it looks more 'sneaky'. Plan on changing tips soon, still can't decide on which one though

2 McDermotts

Until my budget grows some, I can't afford to jump into the custom cue market.

Are there any "entry level" customs, basic 4 point w/veneers that are lower priced than the big names?

I started off with schmelke. Then I had a Huebler, 2 Helmstetters, 2 by Joss, Kikel, Scruggs, Cousins. By this time I could see that this could get out of hand in a hurry. Just love cue sticks

been playin on and off 3 years...

had a generic cue...

got an omega...then predator - still shooting with the pred.

Always played with barsticks til 1997, then...

Overseas Palmer (gifted to the ol' man, then was sold)

Viking PJ (gifted to daughter)

McDermott HD-1 (hated it, gifted to the ol' man, then was sold)

Espiritu w/floating points (played okay, traded toward a Jacoby)

Jacoby BEM w/floating points (played okay, traded to upgraded Jacoby)

Jacoby 1/1 Tulipwwod (played okay, traded up to a Skip Weston)

Skip Weston 1/1 8-pointer, BEM/Gabon ebony (terrific playing cue, sold it to order fancier custom from Skip...BIG mistake!)

NoName Macassar ebony/straight grain maple Custom (picked this one up off of ebay for $85 total, gifted to the ol' man, he loves it and has been his player ever since :) )

Paul Allers 60" E Indian rosewood SP (played great, purchased to use while waiting on the fancy Skip to be completed, 60" was hard to get used to, later sold)

Skip Weston Bois de Rose/Curly maple/PI 'Captured Hearts' (gorgeous cue, played good, later sold due to unforseen financial obligation :( :o )

Josey uber-fancy Ebony/BEM 'sneaky pete' (not terribly sneaky, amazing player, later sold)

Tucker Bocote/BEM non-veneered F/S (knew this cue was 'perfect' from the moment I picked it up! Amazing player!! NFS :) )

BHQ 52" 'Oopsie' cue with bocote butterfly (purchased for the 10 yr old step-daughter, who just loves it! )

Players Cocobolo true SP (picked up from a player at a tournament one night who needed $20...cue is super straight...I gifted it to my son, who was just tickled)

Tucker Bois de Rose/BEM non-veneered, Satinwood butterfly F/S (again, just an amazing playing cue! Gorgeous beyond words...NFS :D )

I have had a couple of regrets...but have also picked up a couple that have helped to make up for those regrets...and will not make that mistake again! Out of the list above...I currently have only the two cues purchased for myself...everyone else is happy with theirs. :D

Main playing cues over the years huh......Too many to put in correct order..... but something like this.

Blue Diamond (I think it was made by Brunswick)
Meucci
McDermott
Mali
Meucci
Joss custom made
McDermott
Schon
Joss
DZ
Schon
Scruggs
Schon
Blud
Schon
Bluegrass
Schon
Scruggs
Schon

Nothing compares to the Joss I had custom made in the late 80s, but Schon fills the spot better than any other cue out there for me.

Cuetec 99455
Lucasi LE-27
Lucasi LE-33
Scorpion NT06
Falcon NF-1

I disliked the stickiness of the Cuetec, so I sanded off a slight layer of the shaft. I brought the LE-27 as a 21oz and struggled with the weight. I liked the way the LE-33 looked, so I got it as a 19oz. Played smoothly but something was still not right. I liked the way the NT06 felt, so I got it as an 18oz. It was light enough, but the balance was weird. Stiff hit. But nice if I were only doing center shots. The Falcon was simplicity at its finest. Disappointed at the taper. Got an OB-1 for it and it was a major improvement. The cue felt solid but the balance seemed off for me. I took the weight bolt out of the LE-27 and never looked back. I practice with the Falcon (+ 314-2 shaft) and I shoot league with the LE-27 (original shaft). After using the Falcon in practice, it makes the LE-27 'feel' so much better - balance, weight, and stroke. Dunno why. I use the Scorpion as a break cue now.
