What's next????

I have owned all the wanted stuff...Searing's, Szam's, Bushka's, Rambo's and Tad's. Wish I had the $$$ I spent over the last 28 yrs of cue buying now. Never owned a Peterson or a Gina but owned enough cues to fill a couple of gun safes.

Went to college in 1980 at Miami and fell in love with pool. Had no money and bought a POS no name cue that fall. Received a Mali cue for Christmas that year. Knew I wanted something better and bought a Star Cue in Miami Beach. Went back the following year and upgraded to a cocobolo Star Cue.

In 1987, I went to Tim Scruggs and had him design a cue for me which I had for 10 years until I bought an ivory laden Mike Lambros. I sold the Scruggs to my best friend and he still has it to this day. Our boy Kevin Varney has done some work on it (tips, clean shafts etc...). I then had Mike make me a sneaky Pete and a 5 pointed players cue.

in 2004, I had Mike Sigel make me a cue. It was a great experince working with Mike. From there I bought another Sigel, a Blue Grass, a Josey, a Troy Downey, and most recently an Ariel Carmeli from this site.

I dont think I could remember even close to half the cues that I have run through. The few that I wish I still had include an incredible Searing with snakewood and a few high end Southwests with scrimshaw.

I no longer collect cues and barring something unusual, I plan to die with my current stick (a plain jane G. Szamboti).

  1. McDermott
  2. Padget Custom SP
  3. Schon
  4. Predator P2 & BK2 & Fury Jump/Brk

Regards,
Abe

1. A champs cue with Steve Mizerak's sig on it.
2. Cuetec
3. Muecci
4. Sterling
5. Schon Ltd
6. Rick Howard (current player, and will be for a long time)

My first cue was a Players. I was 19 years old and happy with my new cue. Ex-husband threw it away after we got married, though.

Since then, I've had a Meucci, Joss, and now my Jacoby.

Also have had different break cues, including a Cuetec and Rick Howard. Current break cue is a Predator BK2.

Couple different jump cues: Lucasi and Jacoby.

My memory does not serve me well so I'm missing a couple in there.

Nice list of cues. I hope you did them proud. :D I have never heard of a LAUBE. Any info would be appreciated.

We were fine when I was interested in pool and not drunk or high.

John A. played with a LAUBE in the early-mid sixties. I liked it so I got one.

IIRC, his cues featured a slightly flaired buttcap, some were very fancy and have become valuable with collectors. Don't know when he stopped producing or how many he made.

I think he was in the CHI area.

Cues that I remember owning

I've owned at least one cue from all of these cue makers and a lot of them I've owned numerous different cues:

Paul Mottey - I've owned a number of Paul's cues, some that I bought used, and I ordered a fancy Szamboti style cue that he built for me which I regrettably sold because I thought it was just too fancy to play with. My current playing cue is a Mottey very similar to the fancy cue Paul built for me, but it isn't quite as flashy.
James White - I've owned a number of James's cues and I regret selling one of them in particular. It had the nicest birdseye forearm i've ever seen and the cue was loaded with ivory inlays.
South West - I've owned 5 South West cues, all of them were 6 point cues with triple veneers and the trim rings (AB rings as Laurie calls them) through out the cues. I sold them all for less than $2K and they would have brought $2.5K easily if I still had them. I like playing with predator shafts and it's a pain to get a predator shaft to match a South West cue.
Josswest - at least 4 and I never owned one that I liked playing with.
Joss - at least 2
Tim Scruggs - I've had at least 5 of Tim's cues and I regret selling them all. Tim is one of the nicest guys to deal with and his cues are great players.
Bender - 1 fancy Bender. I didn't care for the cue I had.
Runde - 5 or more nice Runde cues. I think Bob Runde is a very under rated cue maker and he builds a quality cue.
Nova - at least 3
Skip Weston - 2
Nitti - 1
Dishaw - 2
Josey - I've owned 3 of Keith's cues and he's one of the nicest guys in the pool world. I regret selling one of them a lot. I bought it used from an AZ poster who lives in Canada.
Capone - 2
Schon - I can't remember how many I've owned and I currently own a wrapless Stl-21 that I like playing with.

That could have been the first one I bought. I bought a cue from him in the early sixties. It got stolen 3 days later. I wonder if it was a Laube? Was he selling them? Hmmmm, maybe I just solved an old question.

He wasn't a cue pimp but he would let suckers put up items of value when matching up if they were short....could be

IIRC "DICK the QUEER" had a thing for cylindrical objects with flared ends:eek:
