Your other life.

How about making a mean custom cue and defending our country like a BOSS?

Thanks for the kind words Partner, and I had a chance to check out your video. I really enjoyed it, it was put together perfectly and the Music is also great. I had no idea that I had a Rock Star playing pool in my place, and by the way your game has certainly stepped up a few notches!!!

Merry Christmas

I have been playing guitar for over 30 years, playing in different bands, giving guitar lessons, went on a couple of national tours with my band when I lived back in Siberia,Russia.
Then I moved to the sates and still play music, but more as a hobby, even though I played with a few bands here too.
When my last band broke up a few years ago, I decided to learn how to play pool, so now I am slowly trying to get better !

Nothing special for me. I served 20 years in the Air Force as a weather forecaster. Retired 4 years ago. I have been a Security Analyst for the Air Force ever since. One year as a gov civilian and the last 3 as a contractor.

Fathered 4 kids(24, 22, 7 & 4), and have a 3yr old grandson.

Carried a 210-220 bowling average since about 1991. Recently stopped bowling due to a torn disc in my back. Was a youth bowling coach for a few years. My 2 older boys both have over 200 averages.

Other than that, I keep to myself and work on my hot rods and offroad trucks, hunt when I can, and continue to be daddy and hubby

Hey Bryan, that is so cool. I was a weather observer during my time in the Air Force.

Wow, this could be Thread of the Year. Seriously.

I am seldom lost for words in real life, some people actually like it when I am lost for words unless I am being a goof ball which is more often than not.

I can't begin to explain how refreshing it is for a change around here to read
about every ones lives.

I'm amazed. I love this thread. People begin their post with, "I haven't done anything great, etc, but ya know what, you did, everyone has
accomplished something and it all sounds great.

People are opening up a bit and are no longer just screen names. Took ya'll long enuff.

PS - Still hoping that the guy who linked to his bands video would catch this thread.

I blundered into my industry 38 years ago - oddly enough hustling pool.

I'm in the tour, travel and meeting management business. While in college, a fellow student wanted me to hustle his dad at snooker (he despised his father). The father had a custom snooker table and liked to drink and gamble. I, on the other had, liked to make money. He was also the President of a large international tour company in Los Angeles at the time. Over several years of playing and gambling, we became friends and he gave me a job.

Since then I have participated in and oversaw three company buyouts and have owned my own small business corp for for almost 30 years now. I have had many roles in the industry and a great many adventures. Needless to say I've traveled a great deal.

My proudest achievement is my wife and two daughters - who are each far more accomplished in life than I could ever hope to be. One daughter is a credentialed teacher here in Los Angeles who just completing her Master's degree, the other is a high school student, a gifted young lady who just a few weeks ago was awarded a full university academic Presidential scholarship in an honors program in science and technology.

Pool gives me an escape from the pressures of work. The minute I walk through the doors of the pool room, I am a pool player and nothing else.

I like that a lot.

Great topic.

I joined Liverpool football (soccer) club at the age of 9 as a striker and stayed with them for almost 9 years. Few weeks after my 18 birthday I broke both legs and dislocated my knee in a match and that was my career in football over. Life was turned upside down. All I ever wanted to do was play football for a living, and earning £100,000 a week isn't bad either!

But you realise that there is much more to life. If it never happened to me I wouldn't have met my girlfriend. I wouldn't have met most of my friends either.

Swings and roundabouts.

I'm only 22 but used to compete in powerlifting, won nationals and still hold some Canadian records last time I checked.

those are nice lifts,

whats your best bench raw? i did 310 @245 which is terrible.

I was never strong, big but weak. I trained hard for 14 years myself, did all the roids etc. Got size but was weak for my size. All show no go!!! I used to say.

I have always like power lifting, used to know Anthony Clark many years ago. he was amazing. Fun to go to power lifting events, i spotted a few times.

Haha lucky you.

Its amazing to think how one person can change the path of your life in a split second. The guy that broke my legs wanted to hurt me, I'm sure of that but I don't think he wanted to end my career. He's now playing in the English Premier League, and probably earning £50k+ ( $100,000,000,000? ) lol. Go figure.

I was always not very strong for my size, i weight around 240 from 20s t0 40, but in these last 5 years i put a lot of weight on iam at 288 now and strongest ever benched 345 last week, but that is with extra test in me, i never try to work out with very heavy weights i was always afraid of getting hurt i know that is the reason i was never really strong but in these last couple of months i been working out with the heaviest weights i ever used and in return iam much stronger, i make sure my form is spot on when useing heavier weights, cause you know what happens if you get sloppy.

I feel that way too Chris. It may be one of the underlying reasons that all of us feel in some way or another.

I'm going out in a bit to the hall. Last night the hall is open for a while.

When I'm there banging a few balls around, its just me and the table. All other worldly thoughts and problems are gone for that time.

Pidge, how in the heck did you break both legs. Thats just nasty. I did break one leg in four places in a motor cycle accident when I was 32.
But that happens when another motor cycle crashes into you 12 feet in the air and the bike lands on your leg. Tank had a big dent in it from my left knee.

I know that soccer and rugby are rough games but didn't think the injuries could be that severe. One leg maybe, but two.

i was lucky, but that gig has been over for almost 5 years-been dry since.

on another note, one night I was up at the tattoo shop getting some work done-about a year ago, perhaps a bit longer and I met this guiy I talked with him for 45-60 minutes. he sat rite down infront of me, 2' away we were talking about his next tattoo, placement and perhaps adding something to a existing one on his chest, he took of his shirt-(I know this sounds gay but it wasnt like that), he sat down I'm pointing at where i thought the new tat should be, then the artist who was tattooing my back reached over me(im leaning over a chair) and pointed to another spot on him. So this is going on for 45 minutes. then he got up and moved to another chair in the shop 10' away, we're all talking and so on and so forth for 2 more hours, i get bangedeged up since my appointment is over. I walk over to the guy and say "My name is Eric, whats yours?" "David", "ok, nice to meet you see you around". I go home, nice guy i thought. then 3 or 4 days later I see this "David" guy in a pic online, didnt think much of it, i'm in La and see people in real life and then online all the time. then I saw him again, and again and again. WTF??? who is this guy??? Its Beckham, I had no clue who he was until after I met him. He is triple nice I kinda sorta know him now, I dont have his phone number but were friendly cause we see each other at the tattoo shop once in a while, he has had lots of work done by the same artist as me. I never had a clue who he was, hell i never heard of him. Shows how little I know about football(i need to brush up on that)

He has made a zillion times more $$$ than me-i know for a fact, and i'm triple happy for him. he is one hell of a person, i have came to know. it shows how unimportant $$$ is, unless your on a short stack then things change.

My story is very mundane. Nothing as exciting or diverse as the others.

I've been in retail management for 24 years. It used to be great, now its not.

Married the same amount of time, two great kids.

As a young man, I worked as a DJ locally on the radio here, fairly successfully for a small market. Met a lot of great people, had a lot of fun, no way to make a living.

I, too am a drummer, tho not the scope of the others who have posted. I played semi seriously before I got into the radio business, in a bar circuit sort of way. Gave it up for twenty years, got a call from a friend of a friend who has a garage band of "older" folks and needed a fill in. I told him I hadn't played in twenty years, he said "great, you'll fit right in!" I get 2 or 3 fill in gigs with them a year, on average, and we have a blast. I would love to play more regularly, who knows. I like to sing a little, too. Not great, by my estimates, but I can hold pitch, so background singing is a lot of fun. Karaoke is fun, too, our pool teams sometimes go out to a local bar after league sometimes. Played all the brass instruments in high school, always loved music. My oldest son took that from.me, played trumpet at a very high level and sings very well...

I am a licensed amateur radio operator, also known as "ham radio". Call sign is N1VLQ. It's a fascinating hobby. Don't do much of that lately either. I still try to keep up with friends and events and such.

Used to play chess in high school, I think that would be fun to get back into.

I took up pool three years ago, and am quite possessed by it. Sometimes I think its saving me in different ways...

Cool thread.

I am very sorry about your legs, I too understand how a medical issue can change things, i have had 5 back operations and cant do much anymore, i still hurt all the time. I'm better now but still not right. my best friend dropped dead in the gym in Vegas 18 months ago he was 46, bad heart. life is a delicate balance. And yes there are others who want to harm because they are jealous-I seen that AFTER I made $$$, I guess before I didnt realize how much hate there is out there. People hate me because I got lucky, I dont think like that-i'm happy when i see things work for people, i wish you the very best

David Beckham what band does he play in?

They were some picture perfect lifts there Randall, great form, what was your weight?

+1 they were great lifts, i liked the squat the best(looked like he could have moved lots more Kgs) that was to easy to be his heaviest lift. Great form, like pool there are fundamentals in power lifting, i just was never strong enough to compete at any level. however i still love the sport.

David Beckham what band does he play in?

Stray Cats, plays drums........

I know that guy too actually from the same tattoo shop, slim jim. Who I never heard of either. I'm so lame, i'm either reading about biz, doing biz, talking biz or pool I have no clue about celebs, I met Johnny Depp one night I didnt know it was him until after he left, I could go to the Oscars and might not be able to name 10 people, i might regoznize some but I 'm just not into movies, sport, main stream media. I know pool and business, real estate, i recognize buildings(around LA or Vegas) in movies better than people-gods honest truth.
