I asked a mechanic by email if he could put Artemis cushions on my Brunswick. Below is the reply. I'm a little perplexed about the dismissive tone of it, but didn't want to jump to conclusions. Any thoughts out there in AZ land?
To be honest, to me, rubber is rubber. Ive
seen good and bad of all "names" of rubber.

It sounds to me like he has never bought a set of Artemis rubber. I don't think you want him touching your table. Try someone else.

Not all cushions are made equal.

I always thought the first principle of business was to try to do what the customer wanted.

It sounds more like that mechanic shouldn't go near anyone's table.

Like Bob has said, go elsewhere that has at least got the time to listen to your request :)

No reason to overthink it. He's indicating that he thinks that you're 'bad business'. He might have gotten the feeling that you'll be picky and hard to please because you're requesting a specific type of cushion. Move along to someone who wants to work with you and wants to do a good job.

Sounds like he is an old guy that just isn't interested in doing cushion replacement or possibly not familiar with artemis. He may be one of the best cloth installers or table movers and I've know some of those that had a somewhat "I don't care - take it or leave it" attitude. You'll find a lot of service-type people in various sectors that don't cater anymore and I'd guess probably because they have enough work to keep them busy. Keep looking.

I don't think your typical mechanic would carry Artemis cushions. They're not available through many channels, and few customers are fussy enough to insist on them. I had my GCIII table recushioned a while back, and I wish I had insisted on Artemis. The cushions I got were no better than the 25 year old Superspeed cushions I had.

Artemis is installed by both Diamond and Gabriel. They don't have proprietory brands, just install the best available :D

As for the mechanic, he must be out to get lots of quick repeat business by installing inferior rubber

Be careful if your table has Brunswick "Super Speed" rubber. It is K-55 profile. Artemis is K-66. Slight variation in size can cause trouble for an inexperienced installer. If you are insistent on putting a K-66 rubber on, then spend a little more and get the Accu-Fast from Olhausen. With a 100 yr + lifespan, as well as accuracy and consistency that is currently unmatched, it is the best.

Actually the Artemis cushions can be K-66 or K-55. It's a little confusing, but the Artemis "Intercontinental No. 66" is actually a K-55 profile cushion. And well worth the extra money.

As a mechanic I don't carry stock in these, but if a customer is smart enough to request them, then they're usually patient enough to wait a week for me to have them shipped in.

Id go on a limb and say that we make a very accurate rubber at Championship, and we guarantee it for life. :cool: 55 & 66
Artemis is very good as well!

I believe Artemis is 4 sided and he has no idea how to deal with it.
Don't let him near your table.
 
Try your question in the Table Mechanic section. We have some really knowledgeable mechanics like RealKingCobra and PoolSchool, as well as others there. You are sure to get some valuable info.

I would also suggest the Accu-fast cushions from Olhausen, they play fantastic and have a great guarantee. JMHO

Good luck but I would definitely STEER CLEAR of the mechanic that gave you the advice that you listed in your inital post!

It means that he doesn't know anything about rubber. actually it's more like he's saying "I'm not qualified for the job, go find someone else" :rolleyes:
 
You cant or let me say shouldn't use accufast cushions if your table uses a k55 profile , theyr'e not the same profile. I would suggest Brunswick, Artemis or Championship in the k55 profile and to look for another table mechanic.
