Its an Ed Prewitt custom design and built by him ( Ed ).
I own one and love it built rock solid. I believe he quit making them 3-4 years ago. I think they were around $5,000+ 5-6 years ago. If you get the chance to try one do it real smoth and accurate no chatter marks or very minimal if your in a hurry.
Give Ed a call its worth it...

Ed no longer makes that machine.
For a while there was a word he was going to make some w/easily detachable taper bars.
I used that same machine Zylr's on when I apprenticed with him.
It's probably the best router taper machine in the market.
It's dead on accurate. Makes dual-tapering butts a breeze.

would you be so kind as to take a series of pics of it, the more the merrier, including detail closeups, so I can maybe get some ideas before I start to make my own taper machine? I and I others would surely appreciate it!

a previous mesage said the machine was no longer to be in production, I am building my own and have been working on it for the last few weeks, gathering key materials at this point, so any ideas i can incorporate that are better than mine I would try and work in. I am not trying to steal someones patents. Hopefully my finished taper machine will be better than anything currently made. But it really does not matter as it only has to work for me! The basic idea of any taper machine uses principles and ideas common to many taper bars and pattern following machines that run on one axis, but there are variations to make life a little easier. Even with todays autos many innovations are just reworking of ideas from models as far back as the the first luxury horseless carriages, just using new materials and electronics to replace cumbersome mechanical design. Accolades to the craftsman that made that taper machine, it looks sweet. Simplicity is the purest form of engineering beauty.

If anyone has serious interest in one of Prewitt's taper machines they should contact me. There's a possibility that Ed might make a batch of machines this fall if I can coordinate enough interest. A deposit would be required. I believe the taper machines are 5k plus shipping unless they went up in price since I last talked to Ed about them. Ariel Carmeli uses the same machine and it works beautifully and reliably. I understand Kerry Z has 2 of them and hasn't had any problems with them. The machine is ideal for someone who doesn't make more than 150 cues per year. Has 5 shaft and butt tapers. Next models will be able to spin cue butts with joint pin attached I'm told.

Mart, as much as I love to see that machine again ( I've waited for it for 3 years already) am not holding my breath.jazznpool said:

Ed makes way too much money on cues now and has no inclination making that machine.
You can spin butts with joint pin with the old one. All you need is a female j/p w/a hole so the pilot of the pin connects and you just tape the j/p.
