If he grew up in today's era, he would be accustomed to 4 inch pockets
Anyone who thinks Efren's era didn't have 4 inch pockets didn't play at hardtimes or any number of pool halls throughout the country. In Efren's era it was about matching up, not tournament wins.
Absolutely right. Shane beat a who's who of pool on the road to victory, with Filler in the round of 16, FSR in the quarters, and Kaci in the semis. Otutside of a WPM final a few years back, he has consistently annihilated Kazakis, and I felt certain he'd win the final.

As you note, Josh has worn SVB out over the years in the biggest spots, but Shane was the better man when they met on Saturday. Actually, if you read my posts, I am in the camp that feels that SVB is still playing the best pool of his life. There's absolutely no reason he cannot win another major soon. Wishing him the best and won't it be fun when SVB and Josh lock horns at the Mosconi a few months from now?
I'm more interested in watching him at this years US Open, number 6 anybody?????
Scott kept mentioning his age, like it was surprising he still played so well. One mention would have been enough. The fact is a mature Shane is playing better than ever!
I'm afraid that's probably projection.

Thanks for posting. Glad I didn't drive down for that. Zero fun as a spectator trying to fade that nonsense. They went cheap without bleachers.
Be very glad you didn't attend. The only way I'll go to another WNT event is if they guarantee arena seating up front. I'm very disappointed. Bait and switch is the legal term for what these reprobates pulled off. Sickening.

Changing of the guard in pro pool

I expect Filler and Gorst to remain among the top five players, if not top two, for the foreseeable future. Yapp should be right up there, but he has admittedly looked shakier this year.

Beyond that, who is the next great player to step up and win multiple majors? Good question.

Moritz Neuhausen, 22, is my choice. He has all the tools and the mental makeup, too. I just don't know if he has the something special that a Filler or Gorst or an SVB has. That extra gear.

Kledio Kaci, 20, is another choice, but I haven't seen that extra gear in him, either.

Jonas Souto, 24, has come a long way in the past two years. But I would take Moritz and Kledio over him.
The 22-year old Szymon Kural (Fargo 799) belongs in the conversation. He is a former World Junior 9ball champion and got to the final of a major at the 2025 Qatar 10-ball.
