Playing Pool after 50?

I'll be 73 in July and good for about 3 hours of play. In the 1.5 years that I've been back playing I'm really enjoying it and have upped my shot making, banking and kicking.
Our local Saturday night tournaments begin at 7:00, and whenever I make it to the final rounds it's usually pushing 1:00 or later. At that point I'm playing better than I was in the earlier rounds, and could probably make it another hour if necessary. Adrenaline is a powerful stimulant.

BUT...at 81 there's no way I could ever get out and play much before 3:00 in the afternoon. The older I get, the less of a "morning person" I become. Mornings are for reading and practicing on my home table for a few minutes at a time, not for driving 45 minutes and playing against serious competition.

New Dynaspeheres Set

This is something I don’t understand. I watch players, and I use the word “players” loosely, that can’t make 3 balls in a row, buy every damn CF shaft offering at $300-$500 a pop, $25 chalk, a $700 jump cue that you MIGHT need once every blue moon, and every other overpriced accessory available. Then the same people are the ones looking for bargain basement priced ball sets, the one area where buying the best is a good idea. One of life’s mysteries 🤷🏻‍♂️
It just so happens that the best in this case (Dynaspheres) is the most affordable. There's nothing "cheap" about them.

John Schmidt runs 820

Okay what about an APA 5, 6 or 7?
Probably a 7 a 6 sometimes and 5 even less. If those 5 1/4" pockets made the game so easy we would see many more run outs on original Valleys because of the shallow shelf and forgiving cushion angles. When our state tournament used Valleys you would see dudes run out 8 ball racks occasionally only, it wasn't until you got to the mid 600 to 700 players that it would be common, and even then it was heavily dependant on table layout. Even our small 9 ball weekly tournament with players to mid 600's on Diamonds, you see occasional B&R's but not packages, a package under those circumstances would be 2 in a row.

In APA I believe John Schmidt would play as a 7

PBS St Louis 2026 (Men’s World 8 Ball Championship, Mixed Doubles, Women’s Open, Bank Pool), 1-8 April, Half Million Prize Fund

When the pay debate comes up in this sport or that, I now just sit them out.

I can't see the revenue, ticket sales numbers or number of viewers. I have no way to judge where the money is, especially in pool. Only the promotors see that info, and they will make their judgments accordingly. If the men or women don't like it, they will have to take it up with Predator.

Personally, I'd watch women's 10-ball day and night over men's 8 ball.

The term bombshell should have been retired permanently years ago. The etymology of the word is weird. A bomb shell is an empty sphere of metal. It does nothing on its own. It's only when you fill it up with gunpowder or other explosives that it turns into something other than an inert object. How it stopped being a military term is one of the wonders of language!

One of the older announcers can't help but refer to Duddy as the "Billiard Bombshell" every time he sees her. Every single time. Every single tournament. Never fails.

The younger announcers show more tact and never refer to her as such.
I would assume she likes it. If you pull her up on the Internet and look at her photos she's bending over with her boobs falling out, stretched out with her legs spread over the table, pictured in a bikini.
I pulled her up cuz I was curious who she was. I wanted to see how old she was. I think she's like 40 something. I was little surprised at the photos that she's has posted.
The bombshell part is actually the title of an article on her.
That's how she likes to be portrayed.

Old Matches - How important is commentary?

I know beggars can't be choosers, but the score is 10000000% the most important thing. If you can do an overlay of that, that's all that matters. Commentary doesn't matter nearly as much. If Mosconi came back from the dead to play Efren, I don't think I'd watch it if it had no continuous score.
Agreed, keeping track of the score is the most important part of the videos. I get annoyed when the score ticker isn't on the screen for a few mins in modern matches.
