Jim Parker Illinois Billiard Club

Yes, but I did have a falling out with Jim back in the 90s. After traveling regularly a very long distance as a personal favor to him (filling out his handicapped 14.1 tournament roll), he suddenly demanded I pay him a large membership fee. I said I would (even though I would never likely drive that far otherwise) if he would agree to finally purchase a ball cleaning machine (all the balls were usually so terribly sticky, you needed tons of outside on most every shot). He refused, and I never went back. Too bad. I played frequently at his original city location (before he moved the club to the suburbs and became a restauranteur), which had more old school/poolhall character.

Gold Crown 7 Revealed

Because I feel like my Gold Crown IV just doesn't play good. It doesn't seem to cooperate. Can't explain it. It is what it is.

And why buy new tables? Single, never married, no kids to worry about college or 20% house downpayments, worked for the govt, hoarded most of my $$$ over the years, the stock market has done really well for a long time.

I am not planning on leaving all my $$$ for someone else to spend. At least that's the plan.
Don't ever listen to someone else's advice on what you should do with your money, unless you've asked them for their advice.
If you want to spend it wisely or foolishly, that's for you to decide.

Gun drill?

Where have you seen comments about being a sucker for buying a gun drill?

Gun drills are widely used in industry when a long, straight, medium-high tolerance hole is required. I believe that at 10xDiameter a gun drill is suggested when drilling steel. Wood, being much more prone to bit wander and ovoid holes requires a better solution than a twist-bit or forstner bit well before 10D...if you want an accurate hole. Boring bars are arguably higher tolerance, if you have dead-nuts alignment and no vibration. You also need an extremely long drill bit and extreme travel on your feed. A gun drill is self-aligning if the initial bore has been made correctly.

$200 is basically the door fee. You will be adding cost to that to get it set up for your machine.
Any pics of some setup examples?

Hard to Find the Center of the Cue Ball

That reminds me of watching Ray Martin playing 9 ball. His cueball movements were always minimal and very precise. My assessment was his game shouted, "straight pool champion".
My earliest study of Mosconi's book led me to a drill that refined short draw to precision. Starting with A line of balls between the two side pockets and ball in hand on the first shoot them in order to the foot corner pockets. Cueball can't touch a rail. A drill that teaches how to apply the side in small precision manner to help when just a little out of line. The throw of the object ball and slight change of cueball path are worth studying.

Three time world champion according to Wikipedia. Last I knew he still posts on here once in awhile. Funny to see people arguing with or correcting him!

While somebody else had the handle, Ray was always a smart player. Guaranteed to give you all you wanted and then some!

A gentleman and a scholar, of cue ball physics.
