Yes on pristine conditions the transition from roll to bang is very touchy. There is a big caveat on this:On any cut shot, as you increase the speed of the cue ball striking the obj ball, you must hit the obj. ball fuller/thicker. If the balls are clean or dirty, the thickness of contact is different.
