Rudy was in a terminal stage of cancer so I went out there. I didn't go the most direct route but 6500 miles to see Rudy and worth every inch!

No pool but I had brought my competition pistol and some ammo I loaded for steel plate competition to shoot in it, nice mellow loads. John started trying to shoot an about 16"x20" steel plate set up at 200 meters for rifles. He had shot up close to a hundred rounds of my light loads shooting at that plate with no luck. I figured my short range loads were probably shooting a group, to call it that, about six feet tall by two feet wide. The gun was accurate, the load wasn't at that range. The pistol would have shot a group that would have hit the plate about half the time had I loaded planning to shoot 200 meters. Not bad for two hundred meters standing and offhanded.

I picked up the gun from the bench when he wanted me to try. I came up smooth and broke the shot when the sights were about six feet above the plate. A second or two later there was the distinct tink of copper hitting steel. I raised the pistol to shoot again, thought half a second, and set it on the bench. Nowhere to go from perfect but downhill!

Vietnam era. We trained with our M-14's on a huge range. The M14 used 30-06 shells, clips of twenty. After a few weeks I could hit a man sized target at 300 yards. I was a "Marksman." Better shooters were Sharpshooters, hitting the same target at over 450 yards. The very best shooters (only a few) were Experts and could hit it at 600 yards! That's with a scopeless rifle, laying in a prone position. The M14 was one great rifle and very deadly in the right hands.

Memories of those days will never go away.

One word of warning about life here. There is definitely many things that are Lost In Translation. We speak with our command of the English language. They may well interpret it to mean something else that is more familiar to them. It's like a cultural difference.

For instance you say "ceiling" and they think your talking about the roof. Or you say you are having a "between meal snack," and they think you are talking about during your regular meal. This is why you often have to very careful and even repititive when making any requests. And they still may get it wrong.

Thoughts on players who seemingly take Zero practice strokes, before shooting / final follow through?

I speculate that being properly aligned in the first place is considerably more important than how many prestrokes one does, but I'm far from an expert of course.

Bingo, If your not lined up properly in the fisrt place the first 50 practice strokes won't help IMHO

My unasked for opinion on Taom V10 Chalk

It's not Masters, but I used OB chalk for many years, and Blue Diamond for years before that. In both cases, I had to wipe down my carbon fiber cues one every 2-4 weeks.

When I switched to V10, that turned into 2-4 months, with no other changes, e.g. to my play frequency or to my chalking technique. In my experience, V10 is clearly cleaner.

I wonder how they do it? Maybe the chalk particles are smaller? Wonder whether I should be worried about breathing in airborne particles... 🤷‍♂️
