Meet My Coaches

I use video all the time to make sure that I am continuing to stay on the right path and to also see what I am still lacking in proper mechanics, timing, etc. As someone mentioned, you also need to know what to look for in your approach to a shot and your resulting stroke. - yes, some books and the internet are very helpful along those lines; but, no doubt, the very best pool stroke trainers would be a valuable asset in conjunction with your video reviews.

Evidence-Based Strategies to Improve Faster (based on motor learning research)

One of the reasons why we dream at night is to consolidate the learnings of the day, it makes them become more instinctual. Every night you dream after playing that day it is incorporating your play for the day into your unconscious mind, forming “new files” as an old friend used to refer to them.

Studies have shown that you can not only maintain muscle memory developed through physical practice, but also maintain and even further develop muscle memory through closing your eyes, meditating, and visualizing yourself playing. It can also be done through watching video of yourself and others playing. This is done through “mirror neurons” which help us watch others and be able to learn, copy, and repeat what they are doing, it’s how infant children learn through watching their parents.

A good thing to do is to video yourself while playing at peak level and to watch that once or preferably several times prior to going to sleep, and also first thing after you awake to reaffirm it. Doing so just prior to sleep is like creating a “program” for your unconscious to work on as you sleep/dream. It’s common knowledge that your dreams are generally about the last things you do, watch or think about prior to going to sleep.

Meet My Coaches

My video camera shows me everything I do wrong.
It's up to me to correct it.

My voice recorder records all my thoughts and ideas about my game in real time.
So as I don't forget anything important.

I don't need a real live person to show and tell me these things.
There are plenty of books and instructional videos available.
And I can see exactly how it's done watching YouTube videos of the greatest players of all time.
Not to mention the great commentators from Accu-Stats.

Of course, there are many techniques and nuances that can make or break your game.
If a coach knows of them, perhaps they will share that knowledge.

But this is really good for now and just fine for me.
In about another week I'll post another mini-demo and we can all see my progress.

Until then...
you may not be seeing all there is to see
thats why another set of educated eyes is useful

Breaking - 1990s vs 2026

Does shane still play the break with his playing cue? I vaguely recall TAR 1 he was smashing the rack with his playing cue the whole set.
While he used to break with his playing cue when he used their wood shafts, it now appears that as he dutifully started using the new CF crap they are now marketing, that he uses their CF break cue as well as their CF playing cue. Gotta keep moving that merch for the corporate overlords.

Looking to purchase a pool table for my home. Need some advice.

I have owned three home tables and I am presently looking for my fourth table for my new home. I have been at this since 1984 with home tables so my experience along these lines is very extensive. Here are my main thoughts for your particular situation:

1. Stay with Brunswick Gold Crown, A.E Schmidt, a quality older AMF, or possibly Diamond.
2. Find the very best table installer/ mechanic in your area BEFORE you worry about the table itself- esp. since you want pocket alterations.
3. Decide what size table you will be competing on and mirror that size for your home choice.
4. Since you have serious competition desires- and you want pocket alterations to your table- you simply must marry the table to the table mechanic - UP FRONT- discuss all table alteration options with your mechanic - as he should be totally involved in your table selection.
5. Once you both agree on a table selection, have all the alteration work done as part of your initial table installation- calling someone in down the road to alter your table as you desire may lead to surprises that may reveal your existing table to be the WRONG choice or become so costly that you have life long regrets.
6. Do not buy a disassembled table unless your table mechanic plans to replace the cushions bc you will have no idea of the rail speed on a dis assembled table- people lie all the time about when rubber was replaced on tables- in my experience.

Lastly, Don't rush this decision! it is a fairly expensive purchase, it is NOT a choice that can be changed easily once installed, tables that play as you desire bring lifelong joy- tables that do not play as your desire bring lifelong REGRETS- I have been on both ends of the spectrum- please believe what I am telling you.
