Drama at the Junior's event?

We have a solid youngster down here. Probably 12 now and a 550 Fargo.

He can get a little cocky.

I was playing in a local tournament awhile back when he was getting a little chirpy playing against an adult and I watched his dad grab him by the throat and tell him if he didn't settle down, be polite, and show some respect they were out of there.

Sadly, too many parents don't get it...

As an aside, when that little bastard can finally reach the table he's gonna be dangerous. 😑😂
There is a 10-11 yr old in my area playing 550-600. And he is kinda a hot dog and a show off. Cocky. But not in a mean/rude way. He is very good natured about it and very respectful at the same time. Good person I think he just likes being good at pool, and he is. Also mom and dad are always with him and they are the 2 nicest people in the world.

Spots on Aramith Tournament balls

Terrible advice. Pool balls should never need to touch water or Dawn dishwashing detergent.
Thanks for the correction. I did a search on cleaning pool balls and the warm water/dish soap method came up. I didn't notice that this method is for the cheaper ball sets and not for phenolic sets. Luckily I do appear to have done any damage to the sets I cleaned. This is a reminder to myself to slow down when reading online.

Again thanks for the correction.

Tony Robles

He is absolutely a great guy. I have taken two lessons from Tony and both times he went well over the scheduled times and it was money well spent. Like someone up above mentioned, his wife Gail is a great lady as well. Super nice peeps.👍
I know this is an old thread, but this is an update on Tony. He walked in our Poolroom last night (6/16/26) at Family Billiards in Boone, NC just by chance, as he’s been spending some time up here on his vacation. I recognized him immediately and introduced myself to him and told I’d seen him play many times at the U.S. Open when it was in Chesapeake, VA.

What a great guy and everything I’ve ever heard about Tony I can confirm. I knew he has a reputation as a great instructor, so I asked him if he could spend a little time working with one of our talented female tournament regulars who could use a little advice from an instructor like Tony. He said of course,

I called her and 20 minutes later he was working with her for over an hour. What an incredible teacher and motivator and he gave her a number of things to work on which should potentially help get her game to the next level. I tried to pay him but he would not accept anything.

All I can say is what a great guy, and as Stu stated in a previous post on this thread, I think he would make an awesome Mosconi Cup team coach! If anyone here ever has an opportunity to get instruction from Tony, you won’t regret it. He now resides in the Miami, FL area.
