his tips were just as good as any. which for the most part defines most all tips.

but tip selection seems now to be a mental thing.

so its smart to buy what you have confidence and ignore what others say.

That may be it. There is probably enough room to fit cardboard around each ball for protection during shipping. Kind of expensive piece of wood for packaging, with the curves, but labor was cheap back then.

Not really a very good fit of 16 - 2 1/4" balls. I had to push from the top and bottom and still I couldn't get full contact with all the balls. I don't have enough 2 1/2" balls to try a fit with those.

Maybe it's for something besides billiards? This guy was a hoarder. The sellers tried to put similiar things together but they did include with this pool table, a dealer display cabinets for golf clubs thinking it was for cues.

In fact, I'd say it's the only thing for typical shafts.

I don't think there are objective differences in how "well" they play, only in how well you play with them.
