Possible Abe Rich Merry Widow — Looking for Confirmation

View attachment 927069

I saw this yesterday and finally got a minute to get back here to post.

These old generic looking cues are a dime a dozen and are often nearly impossible to ID. This one I can ID.

It's not Rich, Abe or otherwise.

98.396% for sure it was made by Viking for Murrey as found in the 1988 Murrey cue line as advertised in the Dec 1988 issue of Billiards Digest.

Circa 1988 Murrey M-40 cue.

These cues were made by Viking. Where Viking had a window, they merely replaced it with a black ring. Most, if not all, of the cues in the line have corresponding Viking models. I collect these.

Now hand me my beer back so we can get this weekend rolling!
That’s fantastic! Once Curly mentioned Viking and I actually put them side-by-side, I knew there was definitely something going on there. You nailed it.

The Murrey connection explains a lot, particularly why so much of the construction was pointing toward Viking while some of the details weren’t lining up perfectly with the marked Viking I have here.

An actual model, manufacturer and period advertisement is about as definitive an answer as I could have hoped for. Thanks very much for taking the time to dig this out and post it — I really appreciate it. 👍

What is a cue’s “hit”?

I love a cue that pings when I hit it. I started gravitating to medium tips, I have been playing with Tiger Everest tips for quite awhile now. I like them best when they are beyond half worn, there is a big difference between a new one and a worn one, maybe because I usually break with my player, they definitely harden up after use.

When I first came back to pool after basically twenty years off the ping from other player's cues damned near made me crazy. Everybody in the hall was miscuing! The constant ping from the much harder tips than I was used to was awful! I got used to it but I still set my sticks up on the soft to very soft side.

Cue shaft playability differences

Your choice…….ignore me, harass me, criticize me but your opinion is absolutely meaningless and about as important as the shit picked up at a dog park. It matters not a bit to me but even dogs are entitled to enjoy bowel releases so go for it.
Anyway, if the Forum’s readers don’t enjoy or actually resent my posts apparently like you, than just stop reading them.
I’m not trying to do anything to you Matt, I just wonder if you’re aware of that which it is that you do.

You go into threads continually on any given topic and somehow find a way to segue into telling us all for the upteenth time about your TS, Bob Owen or Runde cues, or how you’re so brilliant you proved all the cue makers wrong about KW shafts, or that you have 3 sets of Centennials. Or you’d buy this cue if it wasn’t for the ivory ban in CA. Or like you just did in the Sales section where there’s a thread with a guy is selling handmade wooden racks, and you pontificate about how you would buy 1 of you didn’t already have a Delta Elite.

You don’t seem a bad guy, have clearly done well for yourself, as many of us have. But you derail threads by turning them into yet another post about you, and the stories of your cues, racks, balls, etc. It might be interesting if you hadn’t already done it a million times before.

Not trying to break your balls, just wonder if you’re that self absorbed or if you just don’t realize it. It’s mind boggling.
