That’s what I said lol re read it 😂😂 And I’ve been to nationals twice for masters so I’m well aware how it works.

To give you an example this year when we won to goto nationals our apa masters league fell apart and we almost didn’t have a league. They wanted us to drive over an hour away to play in another areas masters to stay qualified and I was refusing. I was fine not going to Vegas again. It sucks now anyway lol why should I be out of my trip to Vegas because the league fell apart. I understand in the rest of apa you need people to keep playing so their handicap is proper but masters has no handicaps . So to me it’s just a money grab and I wasn’t going to do it. In the end they scraped together enough teams to keep it together for one more session

Yeah assuming things are perfectly rigid simplifies things and gives reasonable results if there isn’t a ton of deformation. But for situations where deformation is crucial, there are “soft body” simulations which basically split an object into lots of little pieces connected by springs. The math for each little piece is easy enough to work out and a computer doesn’t mind doing a lot of computation for each little piece.

For soft body simulations the realism varies depending on the application. Animation and games don’t need to be perfectly realistic for example, but how much an airplane wing flexes needs to be pretty close.

And to be clear, what I’m doing here is sort of in the middle of rigid body and soft body. It’s rigid body but with two imaginary springs in the perpendicular and parallel directions in between the rail and the ball.

Custom and High End Cues on the Decline?

Lots of the new name-brand production cues have big logos and weird designs that make them look cheap.

I got into customs because it was hard to get my money out of production cues. All customs are not built the same. There are cue makers whose name will hold value, increase in value, and cue makers whose reputation (or lack of) is such that their cues will not retain value. Like most collectible objects. I’m not a collector or flipper. My goal has always been to play with a nice cue, sell or trade for another nice cue, and keep trying out different makers-and not lose money. Been doing that for 20 years and I haven’t lost a penny. In most cases I’ve come out ahead. I've landed on a 4 point Tascarella with solid ivory joint as my favorite-as of now!

I’m not trying to make excuses but the ref needs it explained to him that crowd control is his job. You shouldn’t have the whole crowd screaming when someone’s down on the ball. We know the fans are disrespectful children during this event on both sides so they have to be controlled. And for the record I’d be saying the same thing if we were doing it. I want them to miss but not because disrespectful people are screaming on there back stroke

A question about the 1976 World Straight Pool Championship.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen.

I wonder if anyone could enlighten me as to the correct ordinal number for this tournament, held at Asbury Park in New Jersey.

I counted up the previous events listed on Wikipedia, which suggested August 1976 was the 97th staging of this competition. I then, however, found an article promoting a 71st World Straight Pool Championship in 2011. This has left me somewhat confused.

If someone could provide a definitive and official answer about the 1976 event I would be much obliged indeed.

yes I agree with JolietJames, its' not pressure--- its just sharking from the EU fans, thats brutal and yes the ref just didn't do nothing to them probably that was a new rules for Mosconi Cups given by Emily i am just guessing here because years ago, I remember Mosconi fans used to yell and shout but during the SHOT the ref keeps telling them to be quiet which is how it should even today but probably these rules have changed and the EU fans are the best in sharking.

He had a slight angle, so it still would have been a cut into the other corner pocket, and that cut can get sharp pretty quick. Hard to say what the right decision was without being at the table. I didn't like having to back cut the 9 like that either though.

On this side of the pond, cue sports are relegated to ‘game’ . Europe and Asia have elevated cue sports to ‘sport status’.
American pool needs to get its act together because America will not be winning anything on a world without more foundational structure & support, which includes changing perspective.
