They did continue with some of these overlay designs into the MO series, and just a few other examples I've found. I do know that the '84 Gambler was inlayed, and the overwhelming majority of models from 75-89 were also inlayed. I guess I only disagree that they made "tons" of them in that era, just some.

I wholeheartedly agree that those examples are not nearly as desirable. Too many better options for the money.

So they actually improved then?

To my knowledge, all of their current cues have inlays. And they actually look better in real life then on the website.
