I’ve a new found obsession with 3-cushion

My story:
I transferred to SIU Carbondale, IL in 1973. I was required to live in the Dorms. There were 2 Iranians next door and one enjoyed playing caroms.

Stepping back in time: When I was around 8 years old my oldest brother introduced me to caroms on our bumper pool table.

Fast forward to my college days, Ali, an Iranian asked me after learning that history if I would like to go to the Student Union and play some caroms. "Of Course" was my response. He was a decent carom player.

Weeks later we decided to go downtown together and just see whats up. We landed at a pool hall Crazy Horse. In the back of the room was a 9' AMF billiard table and 2 people playing 3Cushion.

We sat down to watch till it was our turn.

Our turn never really came, but what I witnessed changed my life.

I was like, OMG, I Gotta Learn How to Play this Game!!!!!

Great game and still learning new things.

This game and Pool are amazing Sports.
The more you know, the harder it gets.

Gus Szamboti cues picture thread...

Gus Szamboti.. first cuemaker I ever met in person. Of course being 13-14 years old, I hadn't a clue. I just knew he was considered the best. Almost everyone I met while traveling with my uncle had one. Of course when the rooms you go to are frequented by Hopkins, Mizerak, Martin, etc.. you are going to see the best. If you didn't have a Szam, you wanted one. I saw one get sold.. for a cool grand in 1983. They were $ 400 from him if that, and if he took your order. So, the premium prices were being paid way before TCOM and the pool boom. My uncle never waited more than 6 months, and Gus used to laugh and say George, you are never giving up your first cue. My uncles second cue is with a guy who was considered a very good player here in NJ, the third he sent to AZ to a guy named Eddie Brown and he never saw the cue or money again. Who would have guessed sending a Szam to a strung out junkie pool player would get you ripped off?!?!?!?

Advice On This Shot

Back cuts aren't a problem. It's when players try dicking with the speed and other details; the equation collapses. Nuther thing about blind ones to a pocket, you got some slop room so you don't need a 91 degree hit.
Drill this genre of shots by shooting the caroms only. IOW forget pockets. Just shoot at balls with the carom as the objective.
carom = 90 degree OB reaction give or take throw effects.
In the context of DCP's question, this answer is apparently nonsensical.
