Shoot a Million Balls? Give me a break.

I bet I've shot millions of balls!!
For a time period of about 12-15 years, I played anywhere from 10-14 hours a day.
I think its entirely possible for those of us who are crazy passionate for a bit. :)

When you do the math plugging in reasonable times for racking and running balls you will find you probably run a million balls in less than five years. You could very easily have hit three million balls or more. When Danny Medina and I were playing on a seven foot coin op table I noticed the mechanism warming up! Games were going by in close to speed pool times. Table time per hour was very expensive at fifty cents a game.

Pool History - Artificial Intelligence

We've got enough regular slop on this site, we don't need "ai" contributing to it. :ROFLMAO:
Like I said, AI is what it is you either get on board or get left behind.

Fear or dislike of forum discussion of AI is misplaced. The threat isn’t to labor jobs like we’ve seen with past technology. The threat is to higher skilled work like doctors, attorneys, designers, architects, writers, musicians. These people in these jobs used to feel untouchable.

If I have a concern since I’m none of those, it’s how the economy is going to adjust when that kind of job displacement starts to hit.

Again the concern of how to handle AI using people’s likeness like the video above. What happens if pool players, or anyone really, living or long gone, are depicted endorsing products or saying things without their consent or their family’s or estate’s consent?

Technology always displaces jobs but this technology is exponential and society never adapts fast enough to stay ahead of the problems new technology creates.

All of us, in one way or another, endorse the use of new technology, even if begrudgingly otherwise we wouldn’t even be in this forum.

Joel Hercek ~

It’s been awhile since I have posted so I figured I would share a cue that I have had locked up for quite some time
and that I haven’t shared before.
It’s a super player with a few “golden” upgrades.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Thank you

Some professional pics first and then my disasters. 😁

ALWAYS a great cue build from Joel....
This Hoppe is no exception.
Joels points and veneer work always TOP SHELF.
Thanks for sharing !

MR format racking preferences

I think the rack should be randomized for 9 and 10 ball. Fedor and SVB used a neat widget in their jumbo races to tell them where to rack everything. I think it should be like that. Fixing a ball in the rack (especially the deuce) is an advantage to these elite players. They know where it's going.
I'm not even a short stop and I know where it's going. If I'm paying attention I'll change where I break from depending on what balls are where. There are only 7 balls you have to think about and barring kisses it's not hard to figure out where they go and how to hit.

We always used to put the 2B in the back because there are some tournaments that do so around here but honestly it was making it just too easy to get shape on the 2, especially if you were able to put the 1B in the side pocket. Even if the 1B missed you were still usually OK.

I need breaking technique in 8-ball as I get older.

The first step is to understand the rack. Do they use a template in your league? Are the balls old and worn and different sizes? In a typical rack, how many gaps can you spot?

With typical league conditions, every rack is going to be different. The best you can hope for is to get the front three balls frozen. I think it's fair to ask the racker for that much.

Standard advice is to try breaking from different positions. While that may help, if every rack is different, you don't learn a lot from a few breaks.

If you play on the front ball, the cue ball should not hit a cushion unless it is kissed. Work on your control to do that and maybe reduce your speed if necessary to get control.

Side spin and draw/follow don't help -- they just take away from the speed of the cue ball. The cue ball should not be spinning much after contact.

Get a hard tip. They move the cue ball significantly faster than a normal tip.

How often do you or your opponent run out in the first inning?
We do not use a template but old stay traditional rack.
When I play front ball I agree with you I try to do that.
I use a very hard tip (break cue).
Note many ist inning run out. Not much but did have a 2nd inning run out. First round he ran out 7, then I missed making a shot (that was 50%) I should have not tried to make it. Then he pockets the 8 ball.
