For these kind of shots where the post-impact CB path could give a clear indication of a good or bad hit, do you think it would be a good idea if referees inform players of the criteria of a good/bad hit before the shot is taken?

For example, for Yapp's shot, the ref would stop the shot clock and inform both players that it would be good hit if the CB follows path X and it would be a bad shot if the CB follows path Y. And then restart the shot clock when both understand.

The downside is that doing so could be disruptive to the shooter's rhythm. Especially if one or both players are completely ignorant of ball collision physics.

Another stupid thread from me: golf is harder than pool

I am watching The Masters. I have previously thought that golf is inherently harder and crueler than pool. And pool can be pretty darned cruel: the rattle leaving the $ ball in the pocket; the roll that lands 1/4” too long or too short hooking yourself; the scratch after hitting a ball on the table you didn’t account for; the missed straight-in long shot where the CB is 4’ from the OB and OB in turn 4’ from the pocket. All these can be avoided or fixed by experience, and better focus.

But playing pool I’ve never missed a shot by fractions of an inch and had the OB run down a hill dozens of yards away. I’ve never had an OB land in sand or water because I misjudged a shot maybe 1% short of the power I needed, or behind a tree. I’ve never had to calculate how much the CB or OB will curve because the slate is uphill the first half of a shot and downhill the second half (well, maybe at some halls, lol.)

Pool is tough and frustrating enough for me. Golf seems much more so.

Golf might be more interesting if you're on the Green and I can run up and kick it into a sand trap and say "Shoot from there m****r f****r".

Did you read the Predator Q&A page? The BKIII is a wood shaft that has a carbon fiber component. The pad which sat atop the ferrule was a carbon fiber plate. The configuration was updated when the all CF Revo shaft debuted. The information I was specific to the BKIII and not the Rush and Revo models.

You have to read the Predator info link. This is “not” a wooden shaft with a pad. Let’s align our comments based on the correct shaft.

The experiment was interesting to see. Mike would have probably had a better chance in the final had he came up through the event. We usually see players in the semi-finals and finals and they all look like monsters. Easy to forget the players have been tuning in tough competition to get where they are at. Mike didn't have that fine tuning. The other side of the coin is that it is highly unlikely that Mike would have gotten through the field to get to the final. Father Time is a cruel bastard!
