In Her Words...

Well there's your monster road player that no one knew until now. Seems like a lot of money she has won at a very young age. I'm not from MO.,but show me. I'd have to have more proof than that to believe all that story. Johnnyt

I'm sure she is a class act. She played once last year on the WPBA Tour. She went 2W- 2L. All I'm saying is that it is so very hard to make that kind of money hustling pool now. That car and vacation wasn't cheap. Either she matches up great and has a good act, or the writer inflated things a bit. I hope it is all true. Now that she's been outed she could write a book about her pool hustling that would sell very well IMO. Good luck to her. Johnnyt

ABOUT FACE ! Left, left, left right left, give me a left. Give me a right. Give me a left, right, left, right, left, right.!!!;):thumbup:

I have to agree with ya Johnny. It sounds like the ol phrase "I put myself through college shooting pool". I always reply "must have been cheap junior college".
This story could be true, but I personally find it lil hard to swallow. Maybe I have a lil Missouri in me also. Show me.
She does sound like a good kid though. Getting good grades in school will get her much further than pool. Hope she keeps up the good work in school and pool.

Good Article

Jam,
I am glad to see that an article written about a young girl and her pool talent. She is still very young and could have great future ahead of her. This will be be determined by her skills, abilities and desire to play the game.
There are a few guys at Airways in Dayton that are very good players and I believe enjoy sharing their pool knowledge with her.

And, thanks for sharing this news clip.

Best Regards,
Hal

That is an intense picture. I am sure she can get all of the action she wants being a teenage girl. Looks like easy money to most. And the stuff that she described as winning is not all that much if you add it together. If she said a Mercedes ect than maybe.

I agree, it's a little hard to swallow. I think everyone would have heard of a teenage girl making that kind of money gambling at pool. I don't even think Jeanette Lee made that kind of money gambling when she was a teenager and everyone knew about her.

The article caught my eye, and then I did a search on AzBilliards, and Lovely Liz's name is all over the place.

She is kind of easy on the eyes. What a cutie pie! This kid just might have a bright future ahead of her! :)

The Hustler is black and white. Has Neuman and Gleason. Play mostly straight pool, but then Fast Eddie gets his thumbs broken playing 9 ball. His girl friend commits suicide. Fast Eddie beats Fats but his career is ruined by Bert. Ames closes years later.

TCOM is in color. It has Paul Neuman and Tom Cruise. They play 9 ball. Cruise has a skid and almost loses his girlfriend. Makes up with his girl friend and becomes the worlds greatest player. Everthing turns out great. Even Fast Eddie says that he is back at the end of the movie. Disney could have released this movie.

And you ask how can TCOM be better than The Hustler? :speechless:

Yes. All the acting was better, including Newman. You gotta be kidding!!

Well she doesn't have any B&R's in four matches on the WPBA Tour. Again, I'm not knocking her at all. I'm sure she's a very strong player for her age. I just find the hustling part hard to believe in theses days of the Internet. Win anything over a few hundred and it's all over the Net the next day. Johnnyt

You, of all people, should know that there is a hell of a difference in tournament matches and playing for money. I think the hustling story is far fetched myself, but not the fact that she may play a whole bunch better for money. There are a lot of players like that, even today.

I agree. I use to play a hell of a lot better for money than in tournaments. I don't know if that's still the case. I'm about to find out. I was waiting for my jumping to improve, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. I'll probably choke on the first 9-ball for $50:eek:. Johnnyt

JB,
Exactly correct. Sign me up for membership in the "geezer" club (and proud of it).

I must be getting old too...Hustler is MUCH better IMO.

as for the "young gun"...while having a great game is highly valued here, she'd be better off focussing on something else to see if she has an advanced talent in something that'll make her life "easier" (monetarily speaking), and play pool on the side.

:grin:JAM...Probably at least 2-3 dozen well-meaning friends or acquaintances have sent me Landon's video. I hate to tell them it's so old, it's been seen by 20,000,000 people (or more), and that Landon is now more than twice the age he was then, and frequently playing professional-level pool nowadays!

A good friend of mine sent me a birthday YouTube video, as she knows I like pool, and she said, "I hope you haven't seen it before." It was Landon Shuffett doing trick shots. :)

Harold...You are a very nice YOUNG man, but you have a loooooooong way to go, before you can join the "geezer" club (I'm 55, so I'm at least, an apprentice geezer).:grin: Are you coming to Valley Forge this year?

In one more year I'll be able to play with the "Masters"; I may not be there yet but I sure feel like it. !

I was planning Valley Forge this year but my job/boss had other plans..

Harold...You're 49?:eek::eek: What the heck is in the water down there in Puerto Rico? I gots to get me some! Seriously, I would have pegged you for MAYBE 25 or 30 when we met at VF about 8 yrs ago! Sorry we won't get to see you this year!:frown:

Hey, they're not all tall tales. I once bought a root beer AND had some change left over with my pool winnings.

Yeap, 49 it is...! and yes, Valley Forge was 8 years ago. Karen Corr was number 2 that year and I got a signed No 2 ball from her. She won Valley Forge that year, in her way to the number 1 spot the next year (if I remember that correctly)...

off topic sorry in advance but in no way "Vincent" is the best in the world and never really gambled correctly or gotten that good without knowing something about the game and how to move!! Sorry not realistic and I have always thought that. On top of that hes the master mover only after 4 weeks on the road if that! Na

On topic... what power this girl holds being a teenager and walking in any poolroom and asking to get action!! Players be falling all over themselves to get to her and thats a fact.

Maybe we didn't hear about a teenage girl making that kind of score because who's going to admit to dropping thousands of dollars to a teenage girl? They'd die of shame if it got public =) I hope it's true too.

Offtopic: Does anyone have a TCOM handy? Wanna pull it out? A buddy of mine saw a trick shot in the movie and wanted to know how it was done. I was able to show him (on the first try! yay!) but I had trouble believing tom cruise did it himself. I mean, it's not that hard, but still. Basically tom's cue ball is where the object ball would be in the classic straight pool break shot. The OB is about 8 inches north of that and lined up for a slightly angled cut into the far corner (so the OB must travel like 2/3rds the length of the corner. The way it's angled, the CB would naturally travel towards the opposite corner if hit with top. But a ball is partially in the way. So to make it you must sort of hit it with "follow masse". Hard to describe but think of the 'passing lane' trick shot and you're on the right track. The cue ball travels forward and then hooks a bit sideways. It's a little tricky and requires jacking up and he swears tom did it himself, the camera didn't cut away from him. I am skeptical.
