This is March issue of Billiard Digest.

It's my first major magazine publication cover. Also have a few shots inside it. It was just sent to me, and it should be hitting the bookstores real soon. Real good coverage of the 2009 Derby, and fantastic photos!! LOL!!!

Awesome shot, congrads!

I saw this behind the counter at Amsterdam Billiards the other day. Had no idea some from AZB took the pic. Great job.

Wow! Congratulations, Rick S. It is very nice to see all your hard work get a little recognition -- the FRONT cover, no less. Way to go! I hope this is the first of many more to come, my friend!

CONGRATS to Pony-Tail Rick! :)

Interesting, coincidental or ? that this pic IIRC is the first one in a series that you posted here, after having worked your magic on it! (Maybe that caught some editor's eye?)

Next, the cover of Life Magazine! (ehhh, maybe Time instead?)

No, it's a different shot.

I stay in touch with BD and check and see what shots they are looking for before attending the event. I have had several shots published before, only inside the magazine.

I tried to convince them to use a 'sketch', but no luck as of yet. Maybe one day...

"Pony-Tail Rick!" haven't heard that since I left N.C. Now they just call me asshole in Az. LOL!!!!!!!! Please tell the Breakers crowd I said hello, and I sure miss them. (Especially Tania!)

Rick,

Great cover photo of a great BANK-pool player!!! You do excellent work, and you can take that to the BANK (pun intended ).

Congratulations!

Rick, congrats on a very nice accomplishment. That's a great shot of John and deserves to be on the cover of BD. Those "art shots" you did of John were terrific and I know John will treasure them.

BTW, I had an experience 23 years ago that gives me an appreciate of how you felt when you saw your photo on the cover. I had a cover shot (Billiards News) back in 1986 and was absolutely thrilled when I saw my pics. In my case, it was something I had sought to accomplish and once I did, I lost interest in shooting pool tournaments. I suspect this cover shot won't have that effect on you.

Here's my cover from 23 years ago and let me be the first to say that your image of John far surpasses the images I had on that Billiard News cover.

CONGRATS to Pony-Tail Rick! :)

"Pony-Tail Rick." LOL! :grin-square: That is how nicknames are born.

We used to have a lot of Larrys in our pool room, and the nicknames went something like this: Fast Larry, Delaware Larry, Larry the Elevator Man. Same with Ed: Big Ed, Fast Eddie, Fat Ed.

Rick S., I hereby christen you forever more as "Pony-Tail Rick." :p

You have to admit, it has a nice ring to it!

Same thing....there was a couple other Ricks around there at the time. Around these (as we say out west) parts, I'm the one and only, really in the whole state. (as far as I know anyway)

Thanks JAM!!!!!!

Thanks Bill!

That means a lot.

Hey...23 yrs ago, things have changes quite a bit! Those are good shots no matter when they were taken.

Nah....I'll keep shooting pool till I can't go to anymore tournaments. If I'm there, camera will be in hand, or very close by anyway! It's my true love, and don't think anything will change too soon.

Even if there isn't much money in it, my heart is still in it. Where else you gonna get front row seats?? LOL!!!

I have branched out to try and recover some of the costs associated. I just recently won a bid to photograph new homes for one of Az's biggest home builders. Matter of fact, I have two new models to go shoot today.

If there is a will, there is a way!

THANKS!

green with NV

Congratulations Rick!

I guess it's like when a musician hears his song on the radio for the first time!

I have a few photos in the AZB Gallery (Asia 10 Ball Korea) but that can't compare to a magazine cover.

eye NV u!

Sounds like things are going well for you Rick and I'm glad to hear it. BTW, I should have realized that getting that shot on the cover was NOT going to end your efforts at pool photography by the phrase "1st Cover shot" in the title of your original post.:)

"Pony-Tail Rick" huh........... I think us locals will just have to shorten that to "Pony Boy" or just "Pony". I have other names for ya, but we'll save that for another day.
Anyhoo......grats for the cover Rick. I'm sure there will be more in the future. It seems your pics are getting more popular each year.
