Anyone play there?

I've gone there twice, last night, and just got back from there just now. Lot's of new faces that I haven't met there. Kinda weird getting eyed by all the players that are most likely regulars there... especially since they stare without a hint of friendliness sometimes. Lol.

Who plays there? I'd like to get to know some of the AZers who regular the place and meet up and play sometime.

PS- Pretty AWESOME tables, too. And those cheeseburgers really ARE good! Lol.
 
They're having a big tournement in the next week or two I believe. Terry Stonier Memorial that draws a pretty good crowd.

Slight chance I may show up but definately worth playing in if you're in Sacramento.
 
Best way to get to know the locals is play in the tournaments.

March 28 and 29 is the 'reunion tournament' been happening for 100 years or so. Lots of the very best of Northern California will be there.

Don't miss it, lots of action and plenty of great pool.

That's staring (mean mugging) is a nor-cal thing. if you stare back it's usually followed by "what the f*ck are you looking at?"

Hahahaha! I know what it is. I've been here in Sacramento for 19 years, doesn't ever mean I have to like it! Lol.
 
I was there a month ago and I thought the tables were extremely loose. The one I was on had 5" pockets, I swear and I glanced around and the rest looked pretty much the same. The corners were like buckets.

Terry Stonier was a great promoter of pool on the West Coast for many years. He was the predecessor for Chuck Markulis of Hard Times. These two men put on the best poolroom tournaments ever held out here. Terry in the 80's and Chuck in the 90's. I played in Terry's tourneys and directed Chuck's.

Terry's Sacramento Open in the 80's was a major event with all the top players attending.

I will measure pockets on several tables today and post the results this evening ...

BTW - The Jointed Cue IS the Friendliest Pool Hall you would ever want to walk into ...

Please do, I'd be very interested. They looked huge to me so I simply placed a couple of balls in the corners and there was A LOT of room between the two balls, at least 1/2". FYI, (as I recall) if you are standing in the doorway looking in, I was along the left wall, second table from the front.

If you get a chance, take a snapshot and post the pic.

Call me im there almost most days and we can play a little and I will introduce u to all the good people here the pockets outside are 4 3/4 and the one's in the Tournament Room are 4 1/2 but play tight

I'd like to see a picture of two balls in the corners on the table I played on and the Match Room tables. 4.75" leaves only 1/4" of space and the table I played on (outside the Match Room) was way bigger than that. 4.5" in the Match Room means no space between the balls. That's not the way I remember them. I'm thinking 5" outside and 4 3/4 inside.

I'm a Jointed Cue person too. Table 10 is the tightest, and the ones closest to the door along the wall are loosest. The back room is really nice. The best way to get to know people is to show up regularly for the Monday night B tournament. (Tuesday may well be a short night for the $5.)

JC is a real community- people have known each other for years, decades... Race/age/gender don't seem to matter much, there, either. Everyone really does know everyone.

I've also heard Hard Times players complain about the mean mugging and about the difficulty in going there just to quietly practice alone-- because every ten minutes someone's barking.

This is one of my all- time favorite rooms.
 
I just returned from another perfect day of Pool at The Jointed Cue ...

Pocket measurements were taken with a Dial Vernier Caliper ...

"Most" tables in the main room have 5" Pockets, as measured at the Jaws.

Table #10 (Master Ito's table) has 4.750" Pockets, as measured at the Jaws.

All (4) GC-IV's in the Tournament Room have 4.500" Pockets, as
measured at the Jaws.

Thanks bro. :thumbup: That's what I thought. I was off 1/4" on the Match tables but I didn't get to play on those and really didn't get a close look since there was a tournament going on the night I was there.
