I met Alex about 5 years ago. I was supposed to go meet him in a pool hall in Toronto, but couldn't find him when I showed up. I asked the bartender if he had seen Alex, and he pointed to the far back of the room.

Alex was in the back booth with his laptop. He wasnt playing pool - he was playing online poker....in a pool hall.

That was back in 2004, right after he won the Worlds. Each year we see less and less of him, and I for one, miss seeing him on the tables. :(

The sad part is that if he had one tenth of poker talent as he does heart and talent in pool he would already be a multiple world champion in poker as well - EXCEPT that in poker he can be beaten by any amateur with a few lucky hands and in pool that WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

Miss ya Alex

I really wish he'd play more nowadays. I already consider him one of the best all-around players on the planet and I think if he stayed serious about the game he could be THE best all-around player period. He's only 29 I think.

next day we play 20 hours i win the 12 ahead.
after 60 hours of pool dead even.

Last thing pool needs are top players like Alex leaving pool for cards. If one of the top players hits big in poker they will all flock to the poker table. Johnnyt

I doubt he'll be an instant success or anything, but he's a champion and it wouldn't surprise me if he found a way at some point to place real high at a tourney and make more money than all his pool scores combined.

John Hennigan (sp?) was a good shortstop player, money player who ran out of action, and became an excellent pro poker player seen on tv.

I'm sure Jay H. will say its a hard road to get there, but people thought Moneymaker was a lucky fluke to win the WSOP - he later made a couple hundred grand just placing high at a different tournement in San Jose, CA.

Alex does well under pressure so if he can learn to play the game pretty well, he has a chance.

Of course, us pool fans will secretly root for him to not succeed so we can watch him fade guys like Shane going crazy on him for 2 days and still pull off an incredible win with his talent and heart. Most entertaining guy in pool, IMO.

Alex did make the final table (final 6) at the European Open about 4 years ago. It was a $10k buy-in event...so he must be half decent at it. Either that or freakishly lucky. :p

he plays poker so we can't see how short he is!

heh he was everywhere when i first got into pool, i saw him online and on tv in tons of things. now i never see him.. maybe i'll get that shane alex 100 dvd

I think I've played him online a few times, goes by easymke or something.

Alex is the best pool player in the world when he wants to be. He also plays some sporty snooker, beating Kirk Stevens in the Canadian Championships once.

I think it was the 2005 World Pool Masters when he two 6 packs in the tournament.

In his first match with Tony Drago, Tony played a bad safety on the 4 ball in the first game. Tony didn't come back until he was 7-0 down.

Then against Rodney in the semi finals he blasted out of the starting blocks with a 6 pack. He lost 8-7. Rodney played excellent running three racks and then another 4 racks to win it.

Incidentally Rodney ran a 6 pack in his next match against Raj Hundal in the finals. He last 8-7, lol.

I agree that he's the best when he wants to be. I consider him one of the best all-around players in the world. He plays all games great. I think a lot of people don't realize how good he is at straight pool. he runs balls effortlessly. He even beat John Schmidt 300-298 on a tight diamond table for big money at the DCC a few years ago, that's nothing to sneeze at.

It was a fluke. Anybody who is a good poker player knows that moneymaker played poker like a sucker in the 2003 world series if they watched it on tv. lol!

If you learn how to play poker from a real good player and you always play good then it's really easy. I think it sounds so retarded when you hear someone say "Oh he's a champion poker player" lol and thousands of others play just as good. lol! I used to play 40 50 hours a week. It makes me cringe! All you have to do is read doyle brunsons super system 2 and remember everything and you'll be a great poker player.

He's absolutely one of the best all around players out there. There aren't many players who play top notch 9 ball, 14.1 and one pocket, there are many who play two of the games great but not all three. I'd put him in the top 5 all around players with Danny Harriman, Efren Reyes, John Schmidt and Bustamante.
