Recently I got to sweat a bit of a local $1000 tournament, where the best player in the state easily took out the rest of the field.
During the semi's/finals there was a set going on two tables down. One player I recognized as the son of a strong shooter from the area. The kid plays well, high C to low B maybe. His opponent was a tiny girl who I'd met for the first time a few days prior. Her name is Taylor and she is one of the best in the country for her age group. When I asked her how old she was, she said "12" and I immediately said "turning 12 soon right? 11 and 3/4?" ..."yeah". I had to lol because that's just what kids do. She coulda been 9 for all I know.
She was wearing 'wheelies', which are shoes that have small built in wheels on the soles so that you can glide around as if on roller skates or just walk normally.
I don't know if they played for anything, I thought I might have heard $100 thrown around. He spotted her a few games in a race to 7(?) in 9 ball.
I sweated the finals more than their set but I could see that the boy was in trouble, and eventually I saw her take it something like 7-3.
Afterwards, out of her earshot, the owner of her regular pool hall says to the guy "wow dude, you just got beat by an 11 year old girl on rollerskates. That's pretty strong." It had me in tears.
Then I heard something even more brutal. The guy walks back in from outside and says "she just offered to do it again, double or nothing, without the spot." I don't think he took it!
