Odds On Beating the 15-ball Ghost?

While we're on the subject of bar boxes, does anyone know what the high straight pool run is on a bar table? I've never played it on a bar table and can't imagine how it would go.

I would bet high that SVB could run it on a barbox more than 1 out of 10. He beat the 15 ball ghost in a race 21-19 on a 9 footer. Surely, if you can win in a longer race (more than 50% of the games), you can get 10-20% on the small table.

He has some prowess as it is on the mini.

I believe someone said John Schimdt ran 144 the first time he tried it. I have run 72 in 14.1 on my bar box. Funny I have no 50's or 60's on it.

ON a Bar Box?? I didn't see the word Bar Box? If you did it on a bar box I bow to you. Johnnyt

No, I only have an 8' Brunswick at home. But I'll give it a go on the 4.5" pocket diamonds at Sweet Tooth this week and let you know how it goes.

I sure wish some pro's would chime in on this.

I would bet that Scott Frost could do it at a higher percentage than we are thinking.

I'm bettin' on the Pros!

I hadn't played 15-Ball rotation in many years until last night...I was feelin' pretty good and decided to give it a shot. I broke 'em, picked up my cueball and began to run out the rack. I didn't even realize I had a chance until I was down to the 11-Ball and then I realized I was about to run out my first full rack of rotation!!! (I didn't pocket a ball on the break, therefore "full rack".) I was pretty proud of myself though as I've never done that before.

Anyway, I'm going to have to bet on the top echelon pros being able to get it done at least 10% of the time on the bar box. I totally agree that the difficulty would go way up with the bar box traffic factor, but I just have a feeling that 1 out of 10 times is a pretty safe bet. I don't have any bar tables at the place I play or I'd try it out and see just how much harder I thought it was.

Best of luck to all who attempt the task and I hope they post their results as well. :D

My guess is that a top pro will beat the fifteen ball ghost on a big table with medium tight pockets between 25% and 30% of the time.

According to CJ Willey, when he was instroke (the 90s), he would beat the 12 ball ghost 50% of the time. I remember him saying that on his instructional tapes.

I don't have a problem when you say you or someone else beat the 15-ball ghost on a 9-foot table or an 8-foot table, but that's not what I asked in this thread. I asked what do you think the ODDS are that a top pro can do it on a BAR BOX out of ten tries. I never said they couldn't do it. Johnnyt

Ok ok ok... :)

I think a top 10 professional can beat the 15-Ball Ghost on a bar box roughly 15% of the time. So I'd be bettin' "on" the pro to do this at least 1 out of 10 racks.

That's my "guesstimation and I'm stickin' to it!

I am lucky enough to have access to a pro (not necessarily a top pro). The hell of it is... the pool hall he shoots at is so nice they're all full sized tables, no bar boxes. I was willing to bet 20 bucks on 1-in-10 with him, knowing I may lose, just to see the answer to this.

My guess is around 1 rack run in 5 attempts. Maybe some of them can get to 1 in 3 on average if they break well.

As for smaller tables, yes, there would be a lot of traffic to negotiate, position play would be harder on a 7ft. It would be near impossible on a 6 foot with the big cueball. But you know what? International competitions are played on 9ft, not 7ft. I doubt many pros would worry whether they could beat a 15 ball ghost or not on a non regulation table.

I agree most open tournaments are played on 9-footers now. Which has nothing to do with my question. As the rents and real estate go higher here in the US, and more and more poolrooms close, we will see more 7-foot tables and more tournaments on 7-footers. Most can't raise the hourly rate of table time anymore and there is no big pool movie on the horizon, so what else can they do to stay in business. Johnnyt

I think I heard somewhere that Efren does/used to practice with the 15 ball ghost, and did pretty well against it IIRC. As to the BB, you have a lot of caroms/combos as well as banks, etc. that are much easier also, and once you get past the first 5 balls.... you're out. JMO

I'll have to give it a try next time I'm on a box.

IMO Efren is the greatest Rotation player of all time. His Rotation skills are right there with his One Pocket prowess.

I agree with you, I'd rather have a great bar table player try this then a top pro. I like Dave Matlock at this game. It's all about making combos, banks, billiards, kicks etc. until you get down to less than ten balls. Then it's just one more run out. Give me Matlock and 10-1 and I'm betting.

I guess the members that said a top pro could do it in ten tries were right. I went on my bar box this morning and ran all 15 in rotation 2nd try. Of course that was like my 30th or more try in 3 days:o. Johnnyt

johnny i seen schmidt beat the 15 ball ghost to death getting 5 to 1 on the money the game for yall to try is to break and try run them all in one hole you def need odds on that

In rotation?? If so, I'll pass on that one. Johnnyt
