HELP...what's the best way to straighten the Shaft?

call me.... numbers below..

Although to be fair I might want to let you know that you may never get it sraight again. But I will try to talk you thru it...

Greg

get a spray bottle. like a windex bottle you're not using anymore and spray the shaft with water. then leave the shaft in the sun for a day or two with a book laying on top of where the bend is (opposite direction)

let me know how this works for you

The only way I've seen that always works is to cut out the section between the deco-ring and the ferrule and replace with a piece that is straight.

Thats the only correct way. Wood has memory...99% chance if you did get it straight...it'll go right back shortly. Pretty much live with it or just buy a new shaft.

Shaft Wobble

Make sure the wobble is in the shaft and isn't in the joint. You might just have some dirt in the joint or the joint might just need refacing.

yea..and i'm also looking for a back up shaft too.but is really hard to find a nice old age wood shaft.... yea the shaft is wob not the joint.
i'm looking for a nice old age wood for back up shaft
and cue maker willing to hook this pool player up?
old age wood.

i got one shaft replaced by this cue maker and the wood of the shaft is maple brand new wood about a year or 2 year's old and i doesn't like the hit..so please.pm me if u would hook me up.tys

Even though you start with a piece of old wood once you start turning it, it may have stresses in the grain pattern that will cause it to move some. And then a lot of warpage is caused by treatment by the end user. Improper to heat and moisture. Besides you take a piece of wood turn it down thin and beat hell out of it on the cue ball it's not surprising it might bend a little.

Hehe. Good one, Dick. :D
I was going to suggest a wood chipper or some kind of grinder. Gather up the sawdust, and very carefully pile it into a long straight line. :grin-square:

Sorry Dick,

They've already replaced Leno, though you'd have been a better choice.

LOL Ain't that the truth. I get asked the question all the time, I tell them If You find a way to get It to hold then let me know. Sometimes They still ask if I want to give it a try, and i tell them how I have been there done that already.

If someone doesn't want a new shaft made, I tell them to find a permanent place in their home to hang the cue, pull It off right before they are going to play, and if they are lucky they may get an hour or 2 before it warps back.

What a great idea to save some money. Back in high school woodshop we had a warp strecher. We never did get to see it or use it but the teacher spoke highly of its use. Course that was 45 years ago. Dont know if you can still find them today or not.

I had a guy come into my store once and tell me that he fixes warped shafts. His method was brilliant too!

Roll shaft on table by itself, stop when warp is at its highest point. Hold in place and push shaft down flat against table. While holding the warped section down lift up on the ferrule or joint, whichever is farthest. Keep lifting until the wood starts to make crackling noises. Thats it! It'll be straight every time!

Either he was the dumbest pool player ever or he deserves an Oscar for his performance. He was absolutely serious! Needless to say I never tried that.
